Beginning of the week I started a 4 day trip. Shortly after take off starting seeing P0508 code flashing. Combining to a stop it would either stall idle ok or rev to 3500 rpm. When I got back I brought it to a dealer in Canada as that's where I ride mostly. They replaced the ISC valve. I rode the next day and after about 30 miles code starts flashing again. Not as often but same symptoms. It's now at my dealer. Has anybody had this or knows anything about it.

Just bumping this to the top hoping somebody has seen this code and what they did. Thanks

What is the definition of the 508 code?

I guess seeing the throttle cable stalling issues I would look there first. Slack it up just a bit and see what happens. The early progression of the throttle is quite "flighty" in that you can try to hold RPM and it wants to just take off seemingly no matter what you do. I don't know if this is due to 3 big TB's, Idle air mapping, or something else, but it sure would be nice to have the progression softened in the 1-5% TPS range

That's another problem. Seems like Yamaha has changed some codes from the book. P0508 in the book is low voltage for idle controller now the dealer said they thought it was the isc valve which they changed but it didn't fix it. My dealer thought it my be a wiring harness ground which they r checking now and calling Yamaha to see what they say. Just thought someone already ran into this problem and had a answer.

It could be wiring, but it also could be that it is operating at a level lower or higher than expected. This is just a WAG on my part though as I don't know how sophisticated the diagnostics are.

Have dealer load test your battery, I know that sounds odd but ask him to load test battery and check charging (bad battery can pull down charging and make it look bad when it is not). There have been more than a few bad batteries in the Vipers.

They checked battery and that was good. Diagnostics r not as good as the cats because cat doesn't want Yamaha to know what's in the ecu as I was told by a dealer. Maybe I should go to a cat dealer lol

This auto correct is driving me nuts ecu not way.

You can very easily go back and edit the spelling in your posts to correct mistakes. Most of us don't get it right the first time.

Ok a update from my dealer, he found some wires that were caroded and cleaned them up. He took it for a test ride and under load in deep snow the code came up. Called Yamaha again and they said replace the battery as it was reading 12 volts instead of 12.5. He will test ride tomorrow and let me know, if this doesn't work Yamaha said to call them back. I also posted that Yamaha changed some codes as I was told but they changed them in 2014 for the viper so sorry for the misinformation. Will let u know more tomorrow.

Wiring or electrical in general can be very frustrating. Sounds like your dealer is really taking time to do it right and even testing. Tough to find dealers that will go that far. Who is your dealer? They deserve some recognition. Oh and a treat for the shop guys goes a long way when things get difficult.

Lake city choppers, there more of a Harley dealer but yes they do go out of there way.

Yep, just because a battery will start a vehicle does not mean it will properly power the vehicle....just ask anybody that has had Ford Powerstroke for a period of time. :)
