Well I have been testing the pb-80 for a year now have about a thousand miles on it and I love it. Did some testing against the yamaha primary and the pb-80 was faster.

Yamaha primary setup.
XS 825 Belt
HH weights
39/33 Helix
Orange primary spring
Orange secondary spring set at 3/1
Pulled 8750/8800

60 mph
Sec. 2.70
140 ft

60 ft
Sec. 1.64
mph 43.2

330 ft
sec. 4.55
mph 78.3

500 ft.
sec. 5.95
mph 85.7

660 ft
sec. 7.17
mph 91.9

1000 ft
sec. 9.58
mph 98.5

This was an average of three runs. Not a great track for speed but had pretty good traction out of hole.

PB-80 Setup
XS 825 Belt
41/35 Helix B/O Dalton spring 6/1 wrap
100 grams with 600/1300 Primary spring.

60 mph
sec.2.50
ft 129

60 ft
sec 1.59
mph 41.9

330 ft
sec 4.44
mph 80.8

500 ft
sec 5.81
mph 87.1

660 ft
sec 7.02
mph 92.8

1000 ft
sec 9.41
mph 98.7

This was pulling 8800 rpms. Now if I played with the HH setup more it is possible I could have improved on it some but I do not see any point in doing that. The pb-80 is quiet and virtually no maintenance. Anybody running a stock tune I would highly recommend the pb-80. I will maybe try a 39/37 next year because when testing the 37 finish it always was at least 1 to 1 1/2 mph faster.

My best run this year on hardpacked lake.

60 mph
sec 2.70
ft 129

330 ft
sec 4.43

500 ft
sec 5.76
mph 91.6

660 ft
sec 6.92
mph 97.1

1000 ft
sec 9.22
mph 103.8

1/4 mile
sec 11.29
mph 107.4

My sled is stock only change is 24/50 gearing. Just thought I would give an update on the pb-80.
Thanks everybody have a good summer.

I've had my PB-80 on this whole season, 5100km/3160miles so far and love it as well. No hard data like the OP but for trail riding on 290hp tune and 260hp tune its been so nice. Super quiet, engages very smooth, can take some hard corner to corner abuse and keeps on ticking. I use the XS825 belt, Dalton Black/Orange with stock helix wrapped 6-3. Same belt all season! I will say that last season I did the same amount of miles on the Yam clutch with the XS825 and belt lasted all season as well. (change belts at beginning of every season).

Im leaving the Winder world and parting things out, one of the sad parts is not having that clutch on the next sled.

Leaving the Winder world :dunno: for what must be getting out of the sport.

Jay m good to hear the pb80 seems to work well with a tuned sled!!
I may go this route in the fall!!!

Going to the 850?

When you purchase the pb80 does it come with weights and springs heavy enough for a tuned sled?

You may be surprised to know there are other sleds out there lol I like new stuff, sadly none of the new Yam's appeal to me and I want to try something lighter and more playful. The Winder has been really good especially after adding the PB80 and all the other mods I did.

Still, 90% sure I will be going with the POO VR1 850 as I love the gauge and overall I think they do a great job. Moving forward I will be swapping every year as financially to me that makes more sense so I'm not worried about 2S durability and if Yam comes out with something new (like new chaincase design, new chassis, new gauge technology, lighter) then I would not hesitate to try one again.

I’ve got a 2015 XF7000 with a PB-80 primary and a team tied secondary. It’s blows the cat clutches out of the water in every aspect. It’s quieter, cooler, and faster.

I don’t have any data because the lake never really froze over but in 1,000 miles I was happy I went to the PB-80. The only thing I don’t like is if the primary clutch isn’t warm from running the sled for a few minutes and you hammer the throttle I hit the rev limiter. Also, occasionally, if I pin the throttle I smell a little belt smoke. I’ve stopped and inspected it multiple time and nothing seems wrong. I think the PB-80 may not clamp that belt as quickly and as hard as a tradition clutch. But I’m not sold on that theory because if JayM has hard data with a winder that has a PB80 and he is faster with the 80.......obviously his turbo hots harder than my NA 1049cc sled.

I would suspect the above mentioned guys might be using the heavy turbo slugs in their PB80's? Each slug weighs 54.5 grams, and half that mass fits inside the open hole in the puck. They offer these because turbo sleds often require more weight than what the puck will hold in the standard slug holding area.

I feel the turbo slugs also have a use in a non turbo application as well:

I had an engagement slip issue with the PB80 on my Apex. I tried more weight in each puck, but that lowered my RPM, and I still had belt smudge at engagement. I installed a set of turbo slugs, adjusted the finish weight, and Bam! That cured it! I feel that moving weight out into the hole, farther away from the center of rotation, allows the weight to come on sooner. I'm just speculating, but it worked!

Woody's Attack, my intention is not to hijack your thread. I will be happy to delete this post if you like.

No its perfectly fine. I agree with you about the turbo slug weight farther out will indeed pinch the belt more. Also I have about 14 dalton helixes that I bought for testing. And with the pb-80 the higher initial start of helix the less it slipped in the primary. I tried a 33/35 helix with more weight and it ran much hotter than say the 41/35 with less weight. I would think it would work great on a big tune too. I know it is excellent on a stock tune. A lot of people are complaining about the yammi clutch I cant believe they just dont go to the pb-80.

I had no idea that they made those turbo slugs. Thank you for that information. I’m going to buy some of those and try them out. Next season. Because all the snow in my area of VT is gone. This season was way to short. I don’t get to tune nearly as much as I’d like, because it seems like when we finally get snow I just want to ride, because who knows when the snow will melt. So I’m going to deal with a slight slip in my belt and just ride it, because the season is so short! I think this will cure the slip. I added weight but now I’m at 8600 rpm so I want to be back up at 8800, at least.
