Got a great deal on a black leftover XTX and put 80 miles on it today. So far I love the sled. I am shocked how hard this motor pulls and how well it hooks up compared to my shortie Apex. I am 6ft and 230 suited up and have set the sled up to the softest factory settings(front springs, center shock spring and rear torsion. Also have the shock compression soft at 10 clicks out.). I can't believe I am not bottoming the sled out at these settings. It also rides real smooth set up like this!! Also wondering if I should widen the ski stance by switching around the shims on the tuner skis ?
Clutching seems pretty good but since it is new I need to give it some time to loosen up.What is the best full shift RPM? Only complaint is jerky engagement. Are the small rollers really much better at engagement? Would a low preload primary spring work too? Thanks for any replies.
I am running ypy spring and 14.5 rollers and the engagement is around 3200. This gives it more bottom end pull as well. The difference is night and day. I think Stock engagement was around 4400 rpm. It makes the sled drivable at slow speeds and excellent for putting on and off the trailer and you don't go over the bars when backing up while standing. I ordered mine from cyclepartswarehouse.com saved me about $50 versus the Schmidt Bros Comfort kit. They use a different spring than I am using but not sure what.
If you want it to hook up even more put an 1.75 backcountry track on which makes it feel like it gaines about 20 hp just from the hook up you gain. The ripsaw track just cant hook up with the torque of the nytro motor.
Another thing you might want to look into is adjusting the transfer on your rear suspension. This make a huge difference in hook up as well and lightens up the steering. Your skis will become a lot lighter with more transfer.
