I have an '03 shorty. the only thing Ive done is HC's with the bender helix and setup and I get TERRIBLE mileage. only about 10 - 11mpg. anyone have any ideas on why? I thought these were supposed to be really good on gas! I love my sled and it seems to run like a top, but I can only go about 90 miles or so on a full tank!

Your not the first guy with HC's to complain about this. I had a set of HH's and only lost about 1/2 MPG.
I got a new setup to try from the HC guy (not for the mileage, but for the performance) I'm hoping that it will help, but I can't imagine the clutch would KILL my mileage! My SRX never even seemed to change when I clutched it (mileage wise!) Anyway I'm putting the stock helix back in and a different spring.

WINDY. SLED NOW HAULS LIKE HELL, TOP SPEED SHOWING 129 MPH OR
115 GPS. NEW 04 ZR900, I PUT HIM 4 OR 5 LENGTHS AND WE TOP OUT
EXACTLY THE SAME. BRAND NEW, 150 MILES AND 15 MPG CANADIAN

Hey I have the same problem. I have an 03 Shorty with just an ECP kit, stock clutching and I am only getting 10-11 mpg. The filter kit hurt it maybe .5mpg but my sled is just a pig. I wish I could figure it out, I am going to try to clean the carbs this weekend and see if that makes a difference, also Im gunna check track tension. Good luck and let us know if you find a solution.
well at least i'm not the ONLY one with bad fuel consumption! Even before the clutch I didn't get very good mileage. Everyone said give it a chance to break in! I am now at about 700 mi., I'n not sure how long I have to wait but it's not gettin any better! At least it runs pretty strong (not the numbers I'm looking for yet, but I'm hopefull) I really just wanted some expert opinions to make sure there's no major problems I should be looking at. Thanks for the input guys!

Hunterjb, what was their new setup. I am in the process of dialing mine in and was curious as to their new setup. I am currently running 5.4 in the heel, nothing in the center, and 3.3 in the tip. I have a 1.25" track with 144 1.325" Mega bites down center. It will go straight to 10000 rpms but it seems it won't rev any higher as it progresses through the powerband. If you don't mind sharing that info and saving me a phone call to Randy, I would appreciate it.

I've got an 03 RX-1ER with HH, my mileage is 13-15 MPG. I've noticed that if you spin the engine faster through clutching ,(Primary or Secondary) you will experience more fuel consumption.

Actually there may be another explanation/ Your spedo and odometer may actually be accurate/ If the spedos are off 10 percent as an average compared to GPS then someone thinking that he's getting 16 mpg(USA) he's really only getting 14.4/ so if your getting 11 then add 10 percent to match thisto most of the rest of us./ maybe/ maybe not/later

My blue one will run 130+ dream meter and pulls 01 Machz's easy...and on that run, I got 16 mpg, exactly (200 mile round trip). Absolutely bone stock last year..no studs either. Black one seems to get about the same, but I haven't checked it yet. The faster the miles go on, the better the mileage.
I don't check it around home.

I have HC's and get decent enough mileage....15-16 mpg. The hi reving engagement primary clutch spring sure gets to you though. This year I've installed the stock spring with a couple of shims... only seems to rev to 10200 .... will be tightening the secondary spring 10 deg, and try it......
I'm running the HC and have been getting 15-16mpg on the imperial system, ran one 19+mpg with stock clutching last year. It probably depends a lot on how often you have the throttle to the handlebar and how much powder your running in.
Hey 1Gunner, are you saying your running your HC's with a stock spring just extra shims? If so how where's your engagement at? I'm running the lighter HC spring and it does engage fairly high, smell the belt rubber almost everytime I start off.

Sled moves at 4000 RPM with the stock spring and 2 shims, which on the trails is alot better than buzzing no less than 5500 RPM most of the time....
I havn't tightened the secondary yet to get the full shift RPM up towards 10500....
