I have a possible solution to hyfax wear. Tonight when rideing my friend noticed that there was almost no snow getting to the hyfax. He watched me as I rode and commented that there was not much mosture getting to the track. His reasoning for this is two fold. One is that there aren't as many holes in our rip saws are there are in his (06 rev). So less snow is being let in. Two, no rear heat exchanger and our flap sticks out instead of down. So snow isn't comming off the flap onto the track like on other sleds. What say all of you?

Yamaha has faster hyfax wear then other brands they always have.Even on the two strokes where the snowflap is down and there was heat exchangers in back with fully clipped tracks.
Not to rain on your parade but the elimnates all you causes.
I think it's the steep appoach angle they always had. There's too much friction and the slides heat up.
I have put other brand skids in yamaha's and the slide wear is awesome which the approach angle is way less.

Interesting, never heard of that. In any case, i hadn't heard any theorys till now of why it might be happening, except "your tracks too tight, loosen it!". This is at least some info more than we had before.

Can't rain on my parade, I'm just looking for answers. If what you say debunks what I have, so be it.

Have a fully clipped studded Predator with a wheel kit up front. Limiter pulled up one hole. For reference... like Ryan said, looks to be about the same wear as my old Viper... but time will tell. It was good for 1,000 to 1,500 miles depnding on conditions. Right now I have just over 500 miles and they look to have normal wear for that mileage. My low spot is not at the front of the skid but just behind the stock idler wheels.

Wish I had another Nytro that rides with me for comparison (to see if the above changes rather than conditions actually impacted the wear).

There does seem to be a wide range of results... some better... others, obviously much worse.

i have 723 miles and the wear on mine is between the rear wheels and the mid wheel, front of that and the bend are like new still ,odd huh

I have over 1000 miles on my original set, I have rode poor to excellent trails. I have had some road riding on them also. This sled has been my best on hyfax of all my sleds ever. I usually change mine regularly but I may try to put 2000 on them if the snow now stays good. By the way I have no extra wheels or ice scrapers on.

Cut out the rest of the windows. To much rubber contacting the slides. Set track tension that the top of the inner track lugs are even with the bottom of slides and adjust half turn tighter if it ratchets.

I install yamaha small wheel kits on all my sleds, at bend in rail hyfax wear is minimal after the original wear they all get when they are new.

I just replaced my sliders at 800 miles due to a track change. Worst wear was at the bend at the front rails. everywhere else was good. limiters wre sucked up 1 notch.
