I am thinking about trying the power commander ignition module this winter. Main reason would be to raise the rev limiter. Has anyone tried this module? What were your results and opinions about the performance increase.

I currently have a D&D Can,K&N intake, clutch kit and power commander fuel controller, so I know I would have to upgrade to PCV to be compatible with the ignition module.

I am open to every ones thoughts on this!

Seems to me like a lot of money to spend just to get a higher rev limiter, the mods you have now are built and tuned for the stock rpm settings, only place I see it having a benefit is if you're into racing and want a bit higher rpm for launching to keep it off the rev limiter, but the viper makes it's best power at 8900-9000 rpm so that's where you'll wanna be. If you feel like spending some good money and having a builder actually dyno the sled and setup some new timing and fuel maps then you'll really benefit, but again all about how much you want to spend, my thoughts on it.

I am thinking about it since all the charts and what I have seen we are making power right up to the rev limit or very close to it. Once that rev limiter kicks in power and speed falls quick. It would be nice to clutch and have a bit of over rev available for perfect fast conditions. Other side of it is the more power I am getting with mods the less need for higher revs I am finding. When I was stock 8500 rpm absolutely turned the sled into a boring turd. Now with mods it's actually a lot of fun even that low. So I would have to say I would rather have more power than trying to get the speed with RPM. Tough choice especially with any concerns with clutches and their reliability and efficiency. I think everyone can agree at 9000rpm and higher clutch efficiency goes way down. Mm more Power is the best solution.

I can tell you the rev limier sucks! as mine broke in and made more power on the new motor build I was banging off the rev limiter at 13# but not at 9#'s and actually ran faster 660' speeds and times at 9#'s I know it is just a matter of chasing the clutching but if I could have dialed up the rev limiter even 100 rpms it probably would have done the job for me.

I want the ignition module also....so does Shagman and a few others. We need to get a group buy going. The added features will help any racer with launch control (2 step), but will help us all with timing, rev limiter raised and once we get some good maps going, we can send our programs to people to have them try. Its a win win for everyone.

Has anyone used it and actually had it extend the rev limit, because so far it hasn't worked for us

I have a couple of them working. It is been hit and miss on the turbo sled but works perfect on the stockish sled.

Yes, I think Hurricane and Ulmer both have the rev limiter working as well

Yes, it's not too bad but for the rev limiter you need software to generate the code or you will need to get the code from a dealer or right from power commander.

What do u mean hit and miss on the turbo sled?

I've tried 2 different codes one from power commander and one from Ulmer racing and I havnt been able to make it work yet so far on the asphalt this summer.

If I ease into the throttle it will let the sled go past the stock limiter and work fine. If I stab the throttle it will hit the limiter wherever I set the rpm takeover which is odd. It worked fine before I added the turbo and I have another stock sled that it works fine on all the time. I only added the turbo late in the year so I didn't have too much time to test. I will keep testing this winter.
