Primary Clutch heat

What secondary spring are you running?

It may be a case where the amount of weight of the fly weights isn't enough to pull you thru with that stiff of a spring. try a pink first and you might even want to go silver. with a stiff spring and a shallow angle it shifts harder making or causing heat in both clutches.

would it be worth backing the white one back to 3-1 to see how it reacts?
or change out the white for a pink @ 3-3?

i dont know if thats enough but you can try it. the problem is everything in the secondary is setup to make shifting harder. it needs to loosen up so that the primary can do its job.

I will start with the pink spring at 3-3 and see how it changes the heat , a direct comparison of a white to pink at the same degrees. I hope it will be enough to shift with less effort and allow the primary to have more pinch

I figure if I go up to a pk/pk/pk primary spring I will get more total force while keeping my engagement the same, however my max rpm will be quite a bit higher, so dropping back to a lighter weight to adjust for the higher spring rate should account for the rpm increase and hopefully prevent as much belt slippage

Yes, I would try that.

went out today and tested the machine for a min, (before it broke) only got a few min in before I realized that my brake master cyl had a leak and lost all the dot 4 fluid!
Parts on order :(

I think once that 8JP starts to slip it is hard to stop it. By that I mean I think it glazes over and continues to be a problem even after adjustments.. I ran 1 8JP for 3400 miles with no problems. I then had an aftermarket primary weight problem and the belt would slip in the mid range. I now have the clutch dialed in---with a new belt-- but when I used that old 8jp as a spare this week it made some marks on the primary. I have not yet washed the belt to see if it would return to its former "stickiness " but I will just buy a new 8jp or try one of the 8dn's I have. If your belt has been slipping try washing it between adjustments.

Yep that 8JP is definitely a head scratcher. Good thing as it costs almost nothing to get rid of it.
