The primary clutch has some rotational movement back and forth enough
to make a clunking sound. It seems like the movement is within the crank
assembly itself.
If someone has the time to check to see if theirs is the same and post result.
To check just remove side panel and grab clutch by hand and rotate back and forth slightly (it does not take much force). Do you feel the movement
and a clunking sound.
This might be play in the crank assembly as the clutch is not loose as I get
the same result by turning it back and forth from the bolt.
I just wanted to check with others to see if this is normal.
I discovered this as I'm checking for the very annoying noise up
to about 30 MPH that is coming from somewhere in the engine compartment
to make a clunking sound. It seems like the movement is within the crank
assembly itself.

The fixed pulley probably is tight, you probably do have some play in the sliding pulley. No gear reduction, so should be no slop to the crank.
The following thread touches on why it happens on the 3 cylinder motors, and in 2005 they came out with a quieting kit for the 3 cyl sleds. On my 05 I also added O rings to the weight pivot bolts, that helped too.
Get the complaint registered at your dealer, and also the noise is not harmful.

No there is no movement between fixed half and sliding
half. It is the whole clutch assembly that I'm referring to.
That is what I was checking for.
I get this play if I turn the fixed half or even from the bolt.
I know what you are referring to is the movement between the spider and move able half. That part has
no movement with the amount of force I'm using.

Your not alone, i have this same play on the clutch. I think that the play is between the crankshaft and the "primary sheave drive shaft assembly" which is mounted on the crankshaft with spline. It is this shaft extension that link the clutch to the crankshaft.
I know that when new, there is no play at all. I check on a couple sleds and see it on sled over 6k miles on it. On mine, the play is pretty big and yes it make the clutch rattle even more and i ear it a lot a low speeds.
I don't know how difficult is to remove this shaft and solution to fix the play ???(maybe glue splines with kwik metal ???) I know that we can have acces to the four bolts that that hold the bearing housing of this shaft behind the primary but i'm not sure if the crankcase base need to be separated to remove the shaft assy ??
Anyone have more on this subjet ???

This sled is brand new and there is a fair bit of free movement enough to make a clunking sound just
by moving back and forth.
If it is loose from new what will it be like in a few thousand miles.
Yes I looked up the parts diagram and I would have agree with your assessment
Thanks for your input

I just noticed this exact same thing on my 2016. I don't remember it having play before.

Someone on this site did indeed glue the two splined ends together, using some type of Loctite product I believe.
I read about it on here years ago when researching clutch noise myself. I think the guy had a Nytro, can't remember if a new or old one though. He said after the glue, all of the noise was gone!
