Knapp recommended going to older style primary we finally made switch after at least 1500$ worth of rollers in a 17 winder with ms17 and a paddle track. I admit I was skeptical, we made zero changes to the used apex primary except new thunder rollers and moved the winder spring over. It’s a miracle just like Knapp said, he has been riding a lot with our great conditions here in central Ontario with zero issues. Thousands of kms on rollers now, old winder primary was eating a set in one hard day. I may try sourcing a new apex clutch for mine from US supplier, pricey up here in Canada

I have done the same. Switched to Apex primary and all is good! I wasn’t having any problems with the Sidewinder clutch but just didn’t want to chance it. It does rattle like a bucket of bolts down low but once above 15 mph my exhaust takes over!Knapp recommended going to older style primary we finally made switch after at least 1500$ worth of rollers in a 17 winder with ms17 and a paddle track. Here's my thoughts. I did not have roller issues until this year. What changed? The last few years I ran Ulmers primary spring with daltons maxing weight out around 75 grams depending on the tune. This year I've went to heavier primary springs and heavier weight @ 85 grams in DTYA2s.
I've made 45 1/4 mile passes this year and a 140 km trail ride and my TP rollers are toast.

It’s the heavier weight. I understand guys want to clutch that way, but realize you are going to need rollers if loading weight like that(on stock primary)Pretty sure DMC post proves it. My 2 cents.

After switching over to a nytro primary last fall I have had zero roller issues in the primary this winter.
I think it has more to do with weight profile. Seems to me the arc of the HH has less effect on the rollers than do the more linear profile arms

I concur. But I figured that might start a stir on here. So I kept my thoughts to myself ! Lol.I think it has more to do with weight profile. Seems to me the arc of the HH has less effect on the rollers than do the more linear profile arms

I dont have an answer to why the bushing go out. I run HH and had bad luck on sidewinder primary rollers. Switched over to nytro primary and no issues. I even had my sidewinder primary replaced at the dealer.
I am sure happy that issue is in the rearview mirror now.

As mentioned....it is the Sidewinder clutch that is being hard on rollers. It's been proven over and over.
The HH weights are more aggressive and don't push on the roller in a degree that the flatter profile weights do. But even in time, our rollers still would go out.
Everyone that has switched over to a previous style Yamaha clutch is not having issues anymore.

I also know a couple of guys couldnt get 500km out of rollers, Yamaha warranted their clutch and all was good.
