Sure, I just look at the fact that Yamaha , Ford , Dodge ,whoever could put a hole in a air box and some velocity stacks for basically nothing if there was a benefit. No dispute here just would seem they would be wondering why they missed something like this mod and the public could do better? I have seen where air boxes have been opened up and because of there design they flow less air with the interruption of the mod.... (tested) Seat of the pants is not most of the time faster with say clutching changes that's why they use timing systems for example. Always understanding the parameters they must build within is the only way I could see this. I will see this mod myself this winter as I will have at my finger tips two identical vipers to try only difference will be the air box mod on one......let ya know.
That will be a great way to see how much a difference the airbox mod makes. Definitely keep us posted.

They came through. I would keep cutting. The part triangle part. Then try it. You still have the snorkel? It could be welded back on. Its a big enough piece that if it falls off it wont get sucked in. But honestly I would just try it without.
The snorkel is not longer used when you do the Air box mod is it?

Thanks I'm pretty careful, I probably can knock it out without damaging screen ,I HOPE !Still need to cut out this area. This is where most guys mess up the screen so either get a replacement screen,be careful or just remove and glue it back on. Windshield adhesive or Permatex Ultra black works great for gluing screen back on. The welding can be done with a heated up old screwdriver.

I will check but just got sled only 143 miles, I Doubt it but small amounts of oil in there. What's that about too high of a oil level in engine ?How does your divider look? The flat piece that lays in the upper part of box. Cracked?

That's normal. There are two vents going into the box. It's just a film right?I will check but just got sled only 143 miles, I Doubt it but small amounts of oil in there. What's that about too high of a oil level in engine ?

Correct. Snorkel is not used. The snorkel is not longer used when you do the Air box mod is it?

I will tell you this. It's not a big increase and it's Mid range so my guage which is clutching and rpm did not change. My sled was stock other than a can at time of this mod and Excell mod. The mod did not require clutching change but I noticed immediately how much easier it was to spin the track in a turn. Only two mods I have ever done on my sled that required clutching immediately after mod were exhaust can had to add wieght and header had to add wieght. The rest all helped acceleration but not Top Speed other than it was faster and easier to get to top speed.Sure, I just look at the fact that Yamaha , Ford , Dodge ,whoever could put a hole in a air box and some velocity stacks for basically nothing if there was a benefit. Yes so looks like a regular maintenance thing maybe a couple times a season ??That's normal. There are two vents going into the box. It's just a film right?

Good stuff! Appreciate the sharing of info that so many guys would not.I will tell you this. It's not a big increase and it's Mid range so my guage which is clutching and rpm did not change. I don’t believe it’s a big deal might even work better since I never tried it. But it’s a pain doing this mod so I would do it like the rest of us have.So anymore with how me cutting wrong area might / could effect anything in a damaging way ? I seems not to big a deal ! Correct ?

I cut mine out a little different than the original air box modification. I don't believe stingray's mod optimizes air flow to the point that no other version of an air box modification will equal or possibly do better than his. After my mod I ran against a similar Viper without any air box modifications (both running Schmidt Bros stage II clutching). From a rolling start he would pull away by 4 or 5 sled lengths but then I'd slowly gain on him and eventually pass him easily until I was 4-5 lengths ahead. Both sleds then topped out at approximately the same top speed. I believe with the mod I lost some of the low end torque but it pulled hard from 50-60 mph to it's top speed.
