- 2015 Apex SE
Bit the bullet today and traded 2007 Apex GT for new 2105 Apex SE. I HATED parting with my Ohlins suspension, and have doubts about the Fox Float shocks, but the time for power steering had come.
I heard the new Apex's have an access cover underneath allowing for easy access to the oil filter. That seems like a big time saver, but I've seen nothing mentioning it in the Apex forum which I thought odd. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Also, I'd be curious to hear what others think of the newer SE models and specifically how they set up suspension compared to the older Apex. My 07 had the 13mm sway bar, A-Arms near level, limiter strap on I think the second set of holes, with weight transfer in the skid frame set near minimum. This gave very flat cornering. Are the new sleds set up in the same fashion or does all that go out the window with these air shocks?

Oil filter access is unchanged. Between the oil cooler, crankcase and steering components; there just isn't room to go in from the bottom.I heard the new Apex's have an access cover underneath allowing for easy access to the oil filter. You can, however, try this: http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/ap...ake-oil-filter-change-a-little-easier.132380/

Sorry, no access panel for oil filter change. And I can't give you info on the air shocks, but understand your fear/worry, especially for the rear one.
Did you manage to hold onto the 13mm swaybar? I think it's a worthy upgrade on the newer Apexes as well, especially since you've already been using it on your 07.

Sorry to change subject .. But that would be a sweet Yamaha machine in your Avatar Grimm !!

It's a KTM X2 hybrid prototype snowmobile/ATV concept : https://www.behance.net/gallery/17054593/KTM-X2-HYBRID-SNOWMOBILE-ATV
It was a pic on a Skidoo site where someone was trying to trick everyone thinking that it will be the 2017 chassis.
Nice photoshop work...LOL

Sadly, I didn't keep the 13mm sway bar from my old Apex. Took a few break in runs to dial in set up a bit, so far running 6" inside/4" outside carbide, may go to Bergstrom Triple Points in the future. Rear shock is at the minimum setting of 140PSI (225 pound rider) and fronts are at 80PSI, which is also near the recommended minimum. Haven't adjusted limiter strap yet. So far, with these settings, the ride seems OK but I need a lot more break in miles to know for sure.

Air Pressures at 15 degrees Celsius.
71 PSI Front Shocks.
Mega Float will need 160 PSI plus a little for your weight unless you ride on really good trails or really slow. I'm 200 lbs, age 65 & 160 psi works for me.
Tighten limiter 1 hole.
3/4 Transfer on the Transfer Rod.
2010 or earlier ski's and Aggressive Sno Trackers
This is pretty much the best set up I have found after 5 years on two SE's.
The Air Shocks are happier the harder you ride the sled.
Not as good as the standard suspension or the Apex GT's of earlier years down low.
All my opinion of course.

Dealer set my rear shock to 150 and it seemed really harsh, but then it's far from broken in. I did notice what seemed like excess sag when I set it to 140psi but I didn't measure it yet, and that setting did take the harshness out. I will probably have to bump the pressure up as you suggested or replace it with an aftermarket coil over shock. Time will tell. I take it you didn't care for the dual keel skis. I'm still getting a feel for them. Naturally, I'd rather not ditch the new skis on a new sled - I'd rather work with what's there by messing with the carbides, and it helps me a little that I'm not using studs.
