I'm helping my buddy change his donuts on his 06 attack. The two allen bolts that hold the Y-pipes on are totally stuck! I cannot get them suckers to turn at all. I first tried just the allen wrench, then put a big wrench on the allen for a cheater, then tried a vise-grip. Then we got a little crazy and put a 4 foot cheater bar on a crecent wrench which was on the allen wrench...closed our eyes and tried turning. Snapped the allen wrench

Haven't wrecked anything yet, or stripped the heads out yet... anyone have any ideas? We're about out of ideas. Next on the list is getting a allen that is in a socket and putting it on an impact...then maybe trying to heat it up.

It only has 5000 miles, I can't believe they are so stuck! Any ideas?
thanks

See if you can give it a couple of squirts of penatrating oil then just a bit of heat, They creak like crazy when they start to move.

X2 Heat is the only way...

I sprayed it with some penetrating oil before going to bed last night. I'll throw some heat at it today, see if that helps. I like the idea of welding a nut on it...

Try tapping on it with a hammer. and heat around the head of the bolt. do not heat the bolt.

Forget removing them. DRILL the rivets that hold the bracket. Zipped mine out and air riveted replacements in 10 minutes or less. IMHO, this is a messed up setup, but drilling is MUCH easier than fighting those bolts out.

I had the same problem last week. I welded a bolt on top of each allen head. It worked great for me. Just make sure u get as much rust out as possible. If ur an experienced welder u will know what to do.

I worked on my nytro all day today so I didn't get to the attack. I'm gonna go try and get them out or just drill the rivets out after milking tonight.

I agree it is stupid to put such a small allen bolt in an area that heats up and cools off so much...no duh they are gonna sieze up! oh well.
