R-Motion in a 2007 Apex RTX ?

How muscular are you, since I didn,t want to offend you by asking how much you weight. LOL
I,m about 185, or so, with all my gear.
5'11" 265 geared up ready to ride and I'll be 50 this December.

Its really no big deal to swap any skid into a tunnel. They are all pretty much the same (at least the ones with a inboard shock set up ie exclude polaris set ups). There is a sticky in the aftermarket suspension section that shows what dimensions are critical. I also hated mine in both the RX1 and Apex, I had the pro-action, Mono, polaris edge, and now the ZX2. Of all of them the AD bolvin ZX2 is the best for ME. I say that because I wouldn't call it plush but it takes a beating from my heavy SC apex. Whats harder on a suspension in a apex...adding a supercharger, the speeds that my sled approaches in the trail is simply mind blowing and those unsuspecting bumps do a number on the skids. The only one to take it and give me 95% of what I want is the ZX2. That said the polaris Edge skids back in the day with the fox PPS shock (brilliant shock btw) rode amazing. It was more comfort then performance. Is the R motion better? Probably but I bet not by much. Also find a expert like jbshocks to valve the polaris and you have a poor mans M10. The other skidoo skids like the SC5 are also good. To pay over $1k for a r-motion seems extreme to me. I would either A put the money into a suspension that is marketable after your done with it like a M10 or others, or B use a proven skid from a older sled that have good valving support from a company and for less then $500 you should be riding in comfort.

I love my yammie but am no purist, in fact I have parts from ALL manufactures on my sled because I just want the best and sometimes the others come up with some good ideas! Good luck!

Great info.
Can you list specifically what and were I could get the comfort I want for 500 bucks ?
I would buy that up in a heartbeat.

HAHA well I can't provide you everything it will take some research on your behalf to help decide what to do. As for $500... I threw that out buying a used polaris edge skid with fox PPS rear shock which I can find down here in the states for $100-300 complete. Then throw about $150 in springs, and valving to set it up for sled and rider weight. The remaining amount to recondition the skid with new wheels, bearings, powdercoat, etc. This skid when set up is very comfortable. There are some comfy Artic cat skids to although I am not as familiar with them. The Ski doo SC4 or SC5 has been used and again is very comfortable with reviews found in the aftermarket suspension section.

Bottom line if you want to put the time into tinkering, research, and buying used then $500 is achievable if you want to buy something and put it in then get an aftermarket suspension.

ebay just search Polaris rear suspension and start learning about the different options. Some models of polaris had a M10 copy in them. Even better of a start!

Good luck!

i think a SC-4 would probably be super confy if valved correctly and will be a lot cheaper then R-motin.... a well setup SC-4 is really a nice supension, don't forget , any suspension can ride harsh if shock valving and springs are not apropriate to riding style and wheight...

I second that... I ride with a few guys that still have the Sc-4 and have it valved right and they do ride very nice!

Since I really don,t want to get into buying shocks and having them re-valved, which adds considerably more money, I would prefer to buy a complete total suspension, and bolt it in.
I,ve sent a couple of different emails to Bruce Schrader, but have never heard back from him. Has anyone been able to email him and get a response ?
IF I was going to get shocks re-valved, I would prefer to get someone in the Ottawa, Ontario area, so I could drive it to them, and pick it up when it was done.

Call Robert @ Star suspension, he will set you up.

You guys are nuts I have an 07 RTX and with the shocks valved correctly it kicks #*$&@...you guys complaining are way to anal!!!its all in your head!!

Oh really ??? Tell us more. like how much do you weight ? where do you ride ? and how fast and far to you go in a day ? And how many days do you do this in a row ?
Looking back now, and knowing what I do after owning the RTX for 3 years, I should of bought an Apex GT instead.
Plus I,m 3 years older, and that might have something to do with it as well. LOL
Who re-valve your shock or shocks ? Did you do both of them ? And how much did that cost ?

6ft 200lbs,a guy off craigslist last year did my shocks I just told him my weight..a lot of 12 hour rides last year and it was great.i di ride hard some days too...also I had my L4-L5-S1 FUSED IN MY LOWER BACK 5 YEARS AGO..JUST SAYING....My friends have the monoshock suspension and its a good ride on a smooth trail but when you hit big moguls then they bottom out easy..its all preference on the way you ride..i ride hard more than slow

I had the mono shock on a 06 Apex. It had some wierd chatter at certain speeds over the rough stuff.
My gut feeling is telling me the most economical and softest ride I am going to get is with a 2013 or up shorty R-Motion.
That way, I don,t need to get any shocks re-valved, and lots of quick adjustability.

I hope you stick to your guns and find an r motion and install it in your apex.
While i love my 14 viper, I honestly miss riding my apex.
The thing is we ride a lot of rough trails and i can only handle 125 mile days on the apex it just plain wears me out and breaks my back
But i can ride the viper 200 plus. But it just does not have the same fun factor for me that the apex does.
I believe the r motion in the apex might be the ticket to having a mogule masher in a big heavy apex.
I already have the taller seat which helps a lot, if that t motion works, i might even consider one.

Please document the process.
Not just pics, but measurements. Reinforcements, sketches if possible.

Good luck.

What you described is exactly what I have with my Apex. M-20 air and a few other add-ons have made for the most comfortable fun on snow I have ever had! It did, however, require a few dollars to get there...

I have expert x that i removed from my 02 viper before i sold it.
It was a great skid but it is dated.
Ive been mulling over having the shocks redone and putting it into the apex. The biggest thing holding me back is the fear that i will put in all thar work and it wont be what i had hoped it would be.
I dont know. Maybe some day. Till then ill just keep dumping time and money into my 14 viper. Lol
