Was curious to hear how the non-turbo Vipers match up with the 600/800 cc 2 strokes in acceleration and top speed.
Haven't heard much about this aspect of the sleds as everyone was getting them set up for handling and ride, getting the engines broken in, and discussing the minor faults that came with these 1st year sleds. Lots of info from you guys which should be valuable when I pick up my new one for next season. Just wondering what to expect when I "run my buddies". One thing I WILL expect is a tad more zip than I get from my 1997 Vmax 600 twin.

I don't think the Viper will keep up with any new 600 or 800 class sled. They handle great! Jump awesome! These Vipers will haul #*$&@ in the trail! I have no problem keeping up with anyone in the trails! Nothing to do with the turbo. They just flat out handle! That is a huge plus for this sled!! But for lake racing or just a fun race with your buddies, well if I had a stock one I would be the one dropping my hands for the others to race. And just let yours cool off and sit!

Again, I'm sorry I have not raced any 600 class sled with a stock Viper. So I don't know how the race would end. I just drove a stock one and didn't feel like it had the pull like the Nytro. Or my Vector. Maybe I should shut up and go race a stock Viper with My wife's Vector...lol

race
Tim I have raced a 2013 600 etec 700 poo 700 f7 and older vmax 600. I take them everytime untill I run out of gear. Yes top end on the Viper isnt that great but it sure grunts hard getting up to 80s.

Re: race
Very true! I didn't mean any harm by what I said. I just wasn't impressed with the stock Viper, but again like I said I was not racing anyone either. So I'm sure it's faster than I thought. I just wish these things had some top speed to go with the great handling! I just watched a video of the 600 e tec and it only did 104 top speed, and seen a video of the viper doing the same speed. Just took a little longer for the Viper to get there. But if like the Nytro they have mad low end power!

Strongly disagree with Tim re you should plan on being the Flag Man.
Viper ruled the 1/4 mile Shootout in December at Old Forge as I recall in the 600 class.

That makes me happy! I should of kept my mouth shut, cause I was not racing anyone. So it's probably faster than I thought. And I hope they are! Again I meant no harm with this. Just figured it would feel more like my Nytro. I hope this beats 600's and will stick with 800's with a few mods! Just wish they could squeeze 20 more horse out of the 1049!

Lots of little inexpensive tricks to make the viper go fast. I don't ride with any 600 sleds, all my buddies have 800s and we raced pretty much every time out. One buddy has a 14' renegade 800 that is "stock" well the truth always leaks out, he has a clutch kit and from past experience I know that he always drops one tooth on his top gear. He is the only 800 that I ride with that consistently beats me everytime. He is studded exactly the same as me and from a dead stop we come out dead even every time but then he pulls away..2-3 sled lengths in a 1/4 mile prolly. This is a die hard skidoo guy that really knows how to make them perform. Now a few other buddies have skidoo 800s and from a 30 mph roll on the viper is dead even til roughly 90 then they will pull a length or two. From a dead stop my viper eats them, it would take them 3 miles before they had enough speed to pass me. Same exact thing as my buddy with the 13 switchback. We've raced atleast 50 times this year and every time I always hear someone say they can't believe how hard the viper pulls. This sled is so deceiving in the power because it's so smooth and the chassis handles so flat and planted that if feels as tho you aren't really going fast when in reality you are. A few tips if give on this sled if you want more performance without altering the sled: this chassis is not made to go fast, it's a trail chassis, throw some extra wheels on the skid, it lacks very much in this area, spend the money and put on the DuPont slides, they really do gain mph! The stiff rear suspension hurts both the ride and speed, get shocks redone for better ride and install some softer torsions and speed will increase but at the same time you will want the front of your sled to sit a little lower as well, this will act as tho the limiter straps are pulled up and the approach angle of the track will be much less, that plays a huge roll in speed. Just saying this to give so insight on how to make this "heavy and underpowered" sled perform. Sure 20-30 more hp would be great, I'm actually very much considering doing a trail turbo kit over the summer just to raise the fun factor even more..but from my 2000 miles of experience this year, the 135hp viper when setup properly is a great contender against any stock 800. Put a good clutch kit on an 800 and it won't be much of a race anymore..I'm only saying this about stock sleds. Now keep in mind that what works best in a drag race isn't going to work as good on the trail as far as some suspension tuning. I'm not much on aggressive trail riding so my setup works great for me.
Stock, always pulled everyone I raced. Stock to stock. The xtx just pulls hard.
Buddy has a 141 1.6 800 2014 cat. Have not lined up yep. But now I am turboed and he doesn't know it.

From my experience , the Viper, hands down beats any 600 I have raced. Doo and Polaris. Its also faster than Cat 800 that i ran against ( shorty) for about the first 600 feet or so. I have ran mine against a couple different E Tec 800's and the Viper pulls about a sled length to about 500 feet, than loses on top end. Mine is all stock . With some clutch work , it will be stronger on top.

600's won't touch it anywhere but top end. 103 Mph top end so far. 0-80 with a 800 whoever hooks up better wins. My clutching still isn't dialed in, can't wait until I can let Ulmer work his clutch magic next season.

Viper is fast and not geared for top end , gear it and u will see better top end. 102 mph on a hard packed trail feels great to me.

Again guys,
I didn't mean any harm with that post. Like I said before I should not of said anything. I was not racing anyone. So it didn't feel as fast, maybe cause it was pretty smooth. And I'm used to mine. Yamadog and apexgt40 and I went to MI and Yamadog brought his switchback 800 and apexgt40 has a stock Viper. And they raced a few times. And the pro r won every time. By a few lengths. And I would think the Pro R is on par with the 800 E Tec.
My Nytro would beat 800's to around 70+ speeds. So I have no reason to think that the Viper would not. Sorry if I upset you guys! That was not my intention!
I think the ECU is fishy!! Something is not right!

Right on, and it's probably a true 101mph as the speedo is pretty close.
