Thought i would update on the rear suspension. We got to put 400 miles on the sled last week and are back at a friends cabin right now in bayfield county waiting for storm to dump the beautiful white stuff down.
The way we have the sled set i wouldn't change a thing as of now. My wife let me ride it for about 15 miles. It has laser sharp handling. Just goes where you point it! Rides great.
The soft part of the travel before the suspension hits the coupler blocks is plush. When it hits the coupler blocks you can definitely feel it! It almost feels like your bottoming out. If you hit something really big then you can power through the coupled travel. So i dont think it is ideal. But it rides and handles so good i am not changing anything.
My wife noticed the bottoming feeling on medium sized bumps. Studder bumps are smooth as butter! There was a couple times she aired it out big and said it landed like a cloud.
End of February we will be taking a trip with two pre 2020 winders in the UP. That will be the real test to compare how they feel side by side!

Were did you end up with your rear suspension bolts, in the Yamaha position or Cats. I moved mine up to the Attic Cat position and it works great with a lot more transfer than what my Viper had.

All of the suspension bolt holes are in their stock locations.
This sled basically doesn't transfer much at all. It handles very flat. That makes for some very good trail manners!

I have a 2020 LTX SE and for some reason( no one seems to know why) Yamaha moved the rear suspension bolts down to the bottom mounting hole. This puts the rear skid at a bad angle with only a small amount of track on the ground. As far as the ride goes I don't know how it was in stock form because I never tried it. I moved every thing back to the way the Thunder Cat is. Artic Cat designed this suspension so I'm sure they know we're it needs to be. I'm sure Yamaha changed the mounting position to make it pivot in the corners better, who knows. I have had all my rear shocks rebuild and revalved with new center spring. I also put my Fox RC 2 evol shocks on with a new set of Cat ski's with staggered carbides. I only been able to put about 40 miles on due to poor trail conditions but it handles and rides great, easy steering with no darting but has a little push in corners. I will put my sno trackers on when we get more snow.

TPay243 I have a 2020 ltx gt and all last year kept the suspension in the stock location, on hard pack the sled was a bear to turn even with snow trackers so I ended up buying a stiffer centre spring although that worked some it killed my suspension comfort, 3600 km and I wasn’t to happy with my sled.I have a 2020 LTX SE and for some reason( no one seems to know why) Yamaha moved the rear suspension bolts down to the bottom mounting hole. This year I moved the rear bolt to the upper hole, put the stock centre spring back at about 1/4” of preload and it made a huge difference, steering effort is greatly reduced and feels normal now, the rear suspension is extremely comfortable over the bumps now that I have the stock centre spring back in the sled with minimal preload.
I also noticed my track wasn’t touching the floor evenly when sitting on concrete now it is, also just by switching the rear bolt to the upper hole the track got tight so I have to readjust the track tension. Just over 1100km so far this year and this way has be working great.
I’m not sure what Yamaha was thinking but this was is 100% better.

So your rear skid is in the upper hole then? The track doesn't hit the heat exchangers?I have a 2020 LTX SE and for some reason( no one seems to know why) Yamaha moved the rear suspension bolts down to the bottom mounting hole. No issues with the stock 1.25” track hitting the exchanges.. I run my track about 5/8”-3/4” sag in the centre, between track and sliders. So your rear skid is in the upper hole then? The track doesn't hit the heat exchangers?

I wonder why Yamaha made this change? My 20 Ltx le is great other than the rear skid. Doesnt seem to have much suspension and zero transfer. Also going to the top hole should help with cooling ??

It does help some with cooling. Just make sure you check track tension as mine got tighter when moving the rear bolt to the upper hole

I agree with fabio! Much better sled with suspension in the upper hole. I can actually kick the back end out in loose snow now, used to just push. Pivot on center shock is much better now.

The track does not hit the heat exchanger, I think the local Cat dealer thought I was gonna buy a new T Cat as much time as I spent there looking at the rear suspension. The rear skids are both the same the only thing different is the hole position on the rear mount. I just don't understand what Yamaha was trying to do, the only thing I can think of, is they were trying to get the tuner 3 ski's to work better and then they ended using the stryk ski witch is basically a copy of the Cat ski. They probably did not get the finished product(stryk ski) to test and left the suspension settings alone. Who know it's just my theory. I would bet the 2022's will be in the upper hole.

I'm pretty sure the rear mounting hole was changed from '20 forward, due to the new front spindles.
