I have an 08 Nytro....those are not the "old" Floats.
tehy do not cycle very well and jsut seem to be sticky if that makes any sense to you.

Wow, I haze NO issues with the floats on my 08 RTX..and I am a 100% trail rider...I think they work well, even in the small stutter bumps, but I am only running 55psi.

Gotta add here that I bet your opinion is in the minority here on this one. What do the pro's all use? Oh ya, Floats. Yes Float X's are great, but other Floats also rock in the corners and don't roll in the corners. If the rest of the sled is set up poorly, maybe, but that's not the fault of the Floats.
I got rid of coilover shocks on both of my sleds for Float 2's. I'd never, ever go back. My Mountain Viper has Float 2's on front and it rocks off trail. And with my Attak I ride some rough, rough trails twisty trails and the Float 2's give no body roll.
Racing, off-trail, and pounding down rough rough trails are what the Fox Floats are good at.
I said that in my opinion, I'd rather have coilovers for trail riding. I didn't say that floats suck all together. Actually I believe I said they work well for jumping/hard hits...which is kinda what you are saying you like them for

I'd send them to Fox and have them converted to Float X shocks with adjustable compression and rebound. Then they are awesome shocks. Not sure on the cost tho, might cost you a few hundred bucks.

I have contacted FOX before about this. You can not get to the Float X with regular floats. You can get the upgraded to EVOLS but they will not have compression and rebound adjustments.

Yes Farmer, I like Floats for all those reasons. I've also
Never experienced excessive body roll with Floats, is what I was saying. Floats are great trail shocks IMHO. Heck, Yamaha puts the on it's premier trail riding sled, the Apex SE.

That is a very normal trait for the 08' RTX float valving. Get them revalved by a decent shop that knows floats, I.e. Carver/Hygear/Pioneer and you will see a big improvement.
The shock absorbing portion of a float shock is identical (at least for argument purposes) to a coil spring shock. With that, an improper valve stack on a float will be just as bad as it is on a coil. The air sleeve is nothing more than the spring. You do have some rebound, stiction characteristics that are different between the two, but for the most part the air spring is just a more progressive spring than a stock coil. Yes you do change the ride height with higher pressures but you would do the same by tightening the coil. You have to change the coil to a different rate if you wanted to increase rate without ride height. If you wanted a high spring rate but low ride height you can have spacers added to the float to limit the extension, just like you would on a coil.

Interesting posts......I feel mine work awesome for the type of riding I do. And I just trail ride and hit some jumps here and there. I am going to get them revalved this year by carver, so I can't wait to see how it will ride this year.

Floats seemed to work well for me last 2 years. Center shock was/is the only weak link.
All 4 sent to Hygear for revalve and adding the air canisters to the floats.

If I were you I would just revalve what you have or just keep looking for a deal on some floats. Something will pop up sooner or later

X2 run mine at 55lbs, would never go back to coil overs. If you are experiencing handling problems 99% of the time it is related to your overall suspension settings not just the front shocks. Try playing with skid in conjuntion with shock pressures and sooner or later you will come to the right set up. It is a process but worth the effort

I want floats just for the simple reason they are easier to adjust than coilovers

There is a set of Float X shocks off a Nytro RTX SE on ebay right now. $750 bucks, look like new. Thats what I would buy, thats a pretty good price also.
