I have the 225 hp tune form Hurricane. I just noticed they recommend removing the foam from under the muffler. I did not do this last season and noticed no problems. Anybody removed the foam and noticed any difference?

If it gets oil soaked be CERTAIN to remove it IMO.

I am not sure if it’s true for all mufflers but Ben from TD also mentioned a few times that the heat kept in from the insulation will shorten the life of his Super Quiet exhaust. That’s what I am running so I made it stealth and took the insulation out when I put the OEM shield on it.

Just removed mine during this past weekend’s Pre season sled maintenance. Replaced the oil soaked foam with 3 layers of stick on metallic heat reflecting tape!
Had no problem the way it was but I am sure Dave has seen or heard something that we haven’t, so his recommendation did not go unnoticed.

Any pics of how you setup the OEM shield on the SQ muffler? I put back the top heat shield over the turbo but would like to put the heat shield on as well (without the insulation) for a full factory look.

I just used the original 4 bolts to hold the heat shield over the pipe coming from the motor. The bolts closest to the turbo also hold the shield over the turbo on. I also used the bolt nearest the front that goes into the turbo housing. The middle bolts toward the right side I just put in with nuts and washers for stock appearance.
I pop riveted the OEM shield around the muffler. I just wrapped it a little tighter so it can’t move around. When I did that I pulled the insulation off as well.
Here is a pic, I hope that all makes sense.

I should add that I also cut 3 pieces of insulation about 1” x 2” and stuffed them in each end the back to keep the heat shield tight around the muffler and help prevent any noise from vibration.

Iam surprised how loud the muffler mod from woody,s still is,i picked up sled last week and once home fired it up,and as it was idling on trailer (open trailer) in driveway,it sounded almost as loud as my 3" sandale, hope it is quiet at full wack…? Wow do we have snow in patten now, around 20" on ground..6-8" more for us in Portland area thru tomorrow night.Just removed mine during this past weekend’s Pre season sled maintenance. I have a feeling that they are all going to idle quite a bit louder than the stocker. My Hurricane trail muffler by ear is in my opinion a lot louder than stock, definitely a deeper sound. But once revved up and riding around the yard it seems acceptable to me. Definitely doesn't have, WOT brap or anything like that. So I would assume that your mod stock would be similar to my set up. If you look back at beermans muffler shootout you will see the TD mod stock was 2.6 DB louder than the stock muffler. Which doesn't sound like a lot (good play on words, right?) But I swear I remember reading something like that for ever 2DB increase, the human ear hears it as loud as a 6DB increase. But again if you look back to beermans test you will see throughout the rpm range the stock and mod stock we're similar in DB readings.

I removed my foam too. There is a heat shield under the foam . In addition, I put aluminum tape on it to covered the glue and foam residus stickedJust removed mine during this past weekend’s Pre season sled maintenance. Just to be clear on why both TD & Hurricane recommend removing the foam.
The stock muffler tunes will build more heat than stock & as a precautionary measurement they'd like to see the "oil soaker" removed.
BTW: Mine was oil soaked due to the ridiculous oil changing method & almost caught on fire. Good thing the side panel removes easily or i would have been on the phone with Flo from Progressive.

Ah, well another plus of removing the lower panel and using Rivnuts then, with panel out of the way it won't get soaked
