so I am going to have to replace my secondary jackshaft bearing and my chain and gears have approx 12k original miles on them. my adjuster is pretty far out right now. the previous owner went down a tooth I think as he wanted less snap in the throttle when he bought it. what has been peoples experience on life span of the chain? Last time I had it out was a track swap at 7k and things looked fine, but the chain the tech said was a bit stretched according to where the adjuster was. I really dont want to spend 500 bucks on the chain and gears, but it would be cheaper than if she blows. thoughts please...

the rx1 was 24-38 if he went to 23-38 adjuster would be in further would look like chain was streached , if you keep all the slack out of it chain should be fine , if you do not have any adjustment left then change it.

thanks... i assume the only way to know if I have any left is by opening the case correct? Also is this like a motorcycle where if you change the chain you should change the sprockets?

opening the case will tell you for sure , open it set your adjuster see how far it is in if it is 23-38 it should have 72 link chain 22-38 68 link , if you dont trust it change it check your gears so you wiil know what you have in there , they are marker with a number.

ok.. good info. do I need to change gears with chain? Is it street bike thinking to change gears and chains together? bottom gear is over $100 alone

hard to tell on the teeth of gears but if they are not broke , should be good , if you have reverse that is a costly gear , make sure you get the right chain.

yeah... 04 warrior. do you know the diff's

dont know for sure but i think the warrior had 23 top & 38 bottom. when you take cover off you can just count the teeth.

thanks again... one last thing though do you know about swapping gears at the same time or does it go by condition?

The chain is the "weak link" pun intended. You can see gear wear, you can't see where the chain is about to snap. There is a measurement to determine chain wear. But I gotta say at 12k it doesn't owe you anything. Remember the days when if a sled had more than 4k it was done? Stay on top of the wear parts and these sleds will go forever.

You need to replace just the chain. I know they are expensive but that is good life out of the original!

You can tell when they are stretched to far when you remove them and the links dont pivot freely and it acts like its stiff.
