- Yamaha sr viper 15 ltx dx, mpi 190 turbo, straight line header, 38" mtx front end, mtx steering, mtx seat, xtx 141" skid and 2.25" power claw track
2019 sidewinder xtx le, sleeping for now
Being a 15 I believe you have the uncoupled 141 skid like the xtx of that year, just a shorter lug track, later year's were a 146, you can get a coil over shock for a 2016 viper mtx 153, that's what im running in my 141

Hygear offers a nice Fox H1 - 1.5 Zero Pro Rear Shock....
I have the 141" track in my '17 XTX and I did that shock with the Hygear Pro Linkage kit which really helped the trail ride.
You can read a good write-up on all that here...

Stock spring/shock combo is available for under 150$ from a Cat dealer. I can’t believe how much better my buddies 15’ base MTX rides than my XTX.

The Float 3 without an EVOL is terrible. The zero pro shock will be an improvement but it’s still a mediocre upgrade. It doesn’t have any clicker dampening adjustments. Spend a little more and get a QS3. I went another step up the shock ladder from the QS3 and spent $625 for a custom valved X2 rear shock from ZBROZ. It has way more adjustability than the QS3’s (20 clicks of compression and rebound). I feel it was money well spent.
I am not a fan of the HyGear linkage setup for the 141” skid. It takes away the transfer that makes the 141 rear suspension special. Buy a quality shock first I am guessing that you will find that there is no need for the linkage setup. This has been my experience.

I too have a 2015 STX-DX with the uncoupled skid and am interested in upgrading. Yesterday, the upper bolt on the float 3 in the rear of the skid broke and it put a big gouge in the schrader valve causing it to leak. Gonna look at it this week when I get home. If the threads on the shock itself are messed up it’ll get replaced. Looking at upgrade options. Does anyone know a part number for the cat shock and spring for under $150? I know there are better options out there but I have a lot of hobbies and can’t justify spending $500+ on a single shock. Thanks for any help

Another option that is probably at a similar price point and would also be a significant upgrade: Send a photo of your damaged shock to Cannondale and inquire about upgrading to an EVOL. The damaged part of your shock would be replaced. Fox air shocks aren’t inherently bad once you step up from the bottom tier Float 3.
