Are there any reports or studies out there that show which one is better on fuel? I have an 03 rx-1 and have been hearing the new sdi's and mach z's are better on fuel.....

Stock versus stock, they're pretty even on fuel mileage. Sure one might take a gallon more versus the other at a fill up, but I have heard and seen the gallon more on both sides.

Dont forget the Doo's still need premium fuel.The 4 stokes do not.

The 600 SDI is better on fuel than the RX-1 by about 10%.
I rode about 4000 kms with one last season and he always beat me at the pumps. They also have a larger tank giving them about a 300 km (190 mile) range (in good hard packed conditions).
I've heard the 1000 SDI is even better - but don't know for sure.

My buds 05 Mach Z is about $4 more then my Attak after 75 miles. His runs hard & the way they should! 06 800 PT is about $2 more then my Attack after same dis tance.
My 03 RX-1 gets around 16mpg and I have 2 friends that own the 1000 SDI and the other has a 600 SDI and both always take less gas then me. Usually 10-15% less and they run the recommended minumum 87 octane also. I think they are in the 19-22 mpg range.

Two weeks ago I rode 900 miles in the Gaspe area of Quebec. Among the sleds in my group were my RTX, a Warrior, a 600 SDI SKidoo, and an 06 Mach Z. I think this is a pretty accurate picture since we road together as a group for 5 days straight.
In general, the 600 SDI got slightly better mileage than the RTX and Warrior. But it was very close, ussually within a litre or so after 60 miles. The RTX and Warrior were almost exactly the same at every gas stop. That being said, the guy on the Warrior was well over 300 pounds versus my 230. With equal weight riders I think the Warrior would do a little better on fuel than the Apex. The 06 Mach Z 1000 SDI was not nearly as good on fuel as the rest of the group, often using 30 - 40% more than the rest of us.

I ran with a 600 SDI and a 1000 SDI last year. The 600 driver was lighter than me by about 30lbs and the 1000SDI driver was about 40lbs heavier.
The 600 got better mileage and the 1000 get worse. I was closer to 600 than the 1000 was to me. I had to tow the 1000 once because he ran out fuel and I believe his tank is larger.

So from what i am seeing so far, you can pretty much say the 4-strokes vs the sdi's are pretty much the same..... Some say sdi is better, some say 4-stroke are better and some say they are the same.....

Ya that would be fair to say. Very close in Gas milage. I think the 600 SDI is better but the rider does weigh 20 pounds less than me???
The great thing about the 4 strokes is you don' t have to carry 2 stroke oil with you. Just have to watch and add your 5w-30 in at the end of the day.

ya, i am having that issue on my RX-1....Adding oil.... I thought 4-stroke meant no oil..... So really, is it all that much better? Add injector oil or add crankcase oil......Its all $$$ in the end.
You could try using the sea foam. It helped mine for a little while but it's more of a band aid than a solution. I found at first it restored some hp and gas milage but after a few km's it was worse then when I started. So now I just add oil at the end of each day or gas up.

Knock on wood...I have never had to add oil to my sled except the 3 times I've changed it in 3000 miles.
