Okay folks here we go ! My '15 viper has had issues off and on with the reverse. So when it totally quit last spring I shook my head and said there has to be something wrong with this set up. So I purchased a NEW actuator from a dealer 'cause they said oh 'ya the originals fail so put on a new one. I'm stubborn and old school so I took the original one apart and on the motor side( 4 screws), and noticed that the armature and brushes were corroded! Of course it's not going to work, no continuity it's an electric motor! So I cleaned up the armature and brushes and cleaned the tar grease on the ends of the shaft and re greased with synthetic grease and put all back together and walla it's working. So I'm out $150.00 for the actuator, but it'll be at test to see how long my repair shall work. Goes to show you that moisture got into the housing and 'caused a short for sure, but like I say I'm old school so if it can be taken apart go for it what do you have to lose? The dealerships don't give a RATS' #*$&@ anymore to repair items the TECHS just replace components at an extreme cost. Ha on you.

Right On! We should all be given a award from the Greenies. I bet we recycle and rebuild way more than they do. Saving the Environment! So we have enough credits to burn as many Dinosaurs once winter comes as we possibly can right!

So in the "updated" or newer actuator, did they replace the nylon gears with metal of some sort? I was told they did. As shown in one of my videos, our 2014 had the nylon gear that stripped, so I re-clocked the gear as a temp fix. AC had been using this actuator for a while from what I have seen. It's funny they were not updated long ago.
If ours finally fails, I may have to reach out to you and buy that one off of you so you can recoup some costs.
Thanks for the info.

Wow, very nice. I wish I could buy just that one piece. I have no reason to buy the whole actuator from Yamaha/AC, but that’s the only way they sell it.
Thanks for the photo.
