I have an 06 Rage with 6000 miles on it.
I have gone through 5 or 6 belts.
3 have been from being stuck or whatever and burning the belt creating a flat spot and making it vibrate.
2 or 3 have all out blew apart, the last one was so bad that it was nothing but string. We had to take the clutch off on the trail to get it unstuck.
Generally the inside ribs are flying off first.
I have put a straight edge from clutch to clutch and they seem to be pretty much aligned.
I just checked after a good run at about 70 to 80 mph and the belt is hot to touch. I can almost grab it, but it is way too hot to hold on too.
Is this a normal heat and what could be wrong that I'm blowing belts.
They either say Yamaha or Gates on them, so not cheapo belts.
Thanks in advance

Based on other posts over time it seems like the Gates belts don't last. Softer compound than the Yami belts.
HAve your clutches been gone over? With 6k miles I'd bet you've got worn parts.
I've got to re-post a pic of a mod that I did to the top of the clutch cover to get more fresh air in there. Basically take 2" dia. round soffit vents and install them in the top of the clutch cover.
I put 3 of them in. Can't tell you how much lower my belt temps are, but I can say that I went 4000+ on my 1st belt and are almost at 2k on my second belt and all is good with it.

As I just posted on the RX forum, I'll bet all kinds of loot that you have major grooves in the backs of your clutch weights. Comes from running one continuous speed.....i.e. like you had cruise control. Same thing happened on my 06 Nytro.....eating belts like crazy......new weights and variable speeds = no problems since.
