I recently bought a NEW 07 RS Venture GT as a non current model. The sales man told me it was a 700. After looking at the specs more close on the yamaha site it says it is a 3 Cylinder / 973cc. Now does the sales rep say its a 700 because a 4 stroke 973cc is comparable to a 2 stroke 700 in power or am I just lost. Just how much power do I have?

I realize I have 120hp maybe I should have worded it differently. What kind of 2 stroke motor would my venture gt be comparable to?

TY 4 Stroke Master
IMO...comparable to most 600 class sleds....although some here will say 700....with mods sure.
I have a 05 Vector....same motor as yours.

Concur,
120 horses of reliable power.
A 973 cc 4 stroke motor is equivalent to a 600 cc 2 stroke motor.
You can't compare it to anything, you have "the" machine!
Just my humble opinion...

The wide torque band is unlike anything else (2-stroke) you will ride on the trail... some might say a 700 w/o any peakiness.
On the lake it is equivalent to 600.

Depends very much on which 700 you mare talking about as well.
All are not created equal.
Six years ago, as an example. Yamaha sold three different 3 cylinder 700 cc sleds.
SX700, about 110 hp
Sx Viper About 120hp.
SRX 700, about 140.
