The boards flex a lot and slowly weakens an area that cracks the exchanger. Adding tunnel stiffeners will help prevent this.

I've changed the running board exchanger on many sleds over the years that were leaking at this spot, also on 2 stroke models like the 700 viper.The boards flex a lot and slowly weakens an area that cracks the exchanger. Adding tunnel stiffeners will help prevent this.
I never saw any crack. There was always some pitting resulting in a tiny pin hole drip. Aluminum and metal sometimes don't get along in certain conditions. The leak was always where the rear metal bracket touches, or is very close to the exchanger.
This isn't to say that some didn't crack, I just never saw it.
