Pulled my clutch last week and I notice a little bit of surface rust on the crank, where the clutch sits. Should I leave it alone or should I take some emery cloth to it or scotch brite pad. Any thoughts....

I would clean it up so that the rust color is gone also clean inside the clutch . I use a 400 sandpaper to clean mine . Just litely so as not to change the sleel surface .

Scotchbrite pad. Start the motor and just hold the pad against the stub. Clean the inside of the mating surface on the clutch as well. I also always put a thin layer of lapping compound on the stub. Makes it easier to pop back off. I also use the Scotchbrite pad to polish the sheeves while running. Be careful though, no loose clothing!

tttario, how's the new ride..... I'm agentzoey on HCS.... I'm not sure I want to start the sled without the clutch on.... I believe you need it there to help balance the crank... I also clean my faces the same way..... What is lapping compound? Mine pops on and off easy right now.

Pick up machine tomorrow....Can't wait!!!
You don't have to run it, I do for ease. Only for 5 seconds?? Don't think it hurts to much. Crank is balanced seperately from primary. Regardless of how you do it, the scotchbrite pads work great. Lapping compound is used for the smoothing and finishing of metal surfaces, and for the precison mating of metal parts. Just ensures a perfect fit. The reason some primary's are hard to pull is that there are small air pockets stuck between perfectly mated surfaces and oxidizes the metal causing rust and other oxides that make it harder to seperate. If your not having an issue I wouldn't worry about it, but maybe something you could try in the future.

How you making out with racing that F1000?
