RX-1 plug fouling

You see!!!! I had a feeling he was running Super.
The float level specs are on the service CD I don't remember what they were.
I run the Iridum plugs on both my RX's CR9EIX work great but don't get your hopes up for more power, they just keep themselves cleaner.

Yes I agree on the choke, something else to consider is the fuel DO NOT use Super Unleaded or Race fuel, it will foul plugs.

These sleds are designed to run on 87 or 88 octane nothing higher.

Pull the carbs and check the float levels I had to adjust both my 03 RX1 and my 04 Warrior Floats, I didn't experience any real problems but they were not all even like they need to be so I made them all the same and to spec.

The octane of the fuel will have NOTHING to do with the fouling of the plugs. You will see some coloring with leaded race fuel but it is not to be confused with any type of fouling..

I hate to be a hard #*$&@ but your wrong Travis, High octane fuel has a tendancy to foul plugs in engines designed to run on low octane fuel.

Higher octane fuel burns slower therefore an incomplete burn can occur making the cylinder wetter and wetter untill the plug fouls.

I know of 2 other RX owners that asked me about plug fouling and they were both running Super in there sleds due to coming off of 2 strokes previously, when they switched to regular fuel the problems went away.

There are many documented instances of this do some research.

I was going to say in my earlier post that it might be true to a degree with race fuel, as it does burn slower, and there might be some unburned fuel 'left over' from the combustion process. But going from 89 to 93 octane? Sorry, we will just have to agree to disagree.

There are countless cases of guys having plug fouling problems with Super unleaded on RX models do some research and you will see.

I suggest using 87 octane only on stock or mildly modified RX Sleds unless your turbocharged.

Don't forget these sleds are jetted for 0 degree weather and starting them in warm weather compounded with Superunleaded will foul plugs.

A little backround on me, I do custom tuning on all makes and models of cars and trucks gas and diesel both stock and modified and I am certified Superchips custom tuning shop, Been building race engines since I was 16 years old, own and operate the biggest speed shop in New England for 19 years now, I think I know a little bit about fuels and how they react inside engines.

So take it for what it's worth 8)

hey

I just found out that these are essentially the same cv carb as is on my Harley. I put a thunderslide carb kit in that so I think I may be able to set these up. I just need to know the float setting in millimeters. For some reason I thought these were more high tech.??

Fouling plugs

I just got done putting in the third set of plugs including the factory ones in my 05 RX-1ER LE. I bought it new last season, and have put about 250 miles on the sled. I was told by the dealer that I was leaving the choke on and throttle at the same time. When I put the set on last week I had just assumed that I maybe left the choke on by accident until I saw your post. Since this was my first sled I didn't know so I took their word for it, but I would like to know how your situation turns out.

I live 400 miles from any dealer so I can't just take it in. I bought this machine because I heard it was a tank, I was never told the thing about the choke until after I picked up the machine from the airport, and I had no idea it could be so finiky.

By the way did you happen to have the dealer add on or do you have any extras that aren't stock on the sled?

all stock

My motor is all stock. The only thing I did was install a Pioneer wide front end kit on it. I found out that the float setting is supposed to be 13mm on the carbs. I'll let ya know what I find next weekend.
