We have received some calls recently asking about our 3inch exhaust systems with Hurricane tunes for the 998's.

We just wanted to let everyone know that we are working with Dave Marshall at Hurricane to develop tunes specifically for our exhaust systems.

It is evident that our 3inch systems are the highest flowing and most efficient systems on the market. That said, many doubted our HP gains when we stated our findings. Well they just simply make more power!

Currently we have some new tunes for the 240 Race and 270 Race tune that are being tested this weekend. I will report back once I have some feedback.

Heartbreaker 3inch is 12.3-1 AFR at WOT making 17.5 PSI (270R) We saw this A/F on the 240Race and 270Race. Would use caution when running the tune for long pulls until the update is realeased, 93+ is a must in my opinion! New update is showing 11.2 A/F

HyperFlow 3inch is 11.8 AFR at WOT making 16.7 PSI (270R). Again use caution when running for long pulls. New update is showing 10.8 A/F.

I'm not trying to scare anyone however I think it's important that you all have this info. There are many out there that have logged several miles on these set ups that are extremely happy and very fast!

These tunes are truly amazing and Dave has been outstanding with updates sending files and reading logs. I can tell his passion for all this is beyond real and he really wants to get the best tunes out there.

I will not tolerate any bashing, cheerleaders or negativity! This is strictly information for you as you are the reason we are here today! We have not tested any other vendors tunes so please keep this about Hurricane and SanDale.

Be patient and feel free to call or pm if you have any questions or concerns!

It was to our surprise this year that we have seen lean conditions from the combination of hurricane tunes and the sandale 3” mufflers. We all know that efficiency causes this and I’ve been impressed by the flow of this muffler. Through conversations with mike at sandale,we desided to work together to deal with this lean condition.this turned out to be an awesome experience working with mike.
Over a couple of days on his dyno,we have updated flashes for the 3in sandale mufflers in trail testing this weekend.
It is the policy it hurricane Performance to offer free updates for reasons just like this.anyone with the hurricane flashes are welcome to the specific hurricane 240,270 &280 race flashes for the sandale 3” mufflers at no charge. Just simply contact us or your hurricane dealer and arrangements will me made

Great stuff and good to hear. I have been trying to narrow down a tune/exhaust combination for my new Sidewinder.

I am a big fan of the Sandale exhaust as I have ran it on my Viper previously and loved it. Fantastic deep tone that I enjoy. I have been listening to every sound clip I could find for exhaust and I am leaning towards the 3 inch.

I am interested in the Hurricane Race tunes as well for their mid-range snap.

I am quite disappointed with the mid-range of the stock Sidewinder.

I am leaning towards the 240 Race flash, do you have the Dyno results for both 3 inch you could send me or share?

Wow,you are the first person I have read, who was disappointed with the midrange pull, even stock,is yours running good, and not a belt blower? I have a tune and sandale 3" muffler, and am very impressed with the midrange the most, and the noise from my exhaust is pleasant to listen to,unlike some mufflers I have run in the past.

Machine is brand new, totally stock. Still not broken in yet. About 200 miles.

Maybe it will open up?

I have only tried a few hard pulls. I have not tried top end yet either. All I know is corner to corner I am not overly impressed with the pulls I tried.

That being said I had no intention of leaving it stock. I had a 2016 Viper XTX LE that was not very impressive stock either. A Sandale Maxflow 7000 and a Thunder Products Big Venom Clutch changed that. Also Gates Carbon 8JP belt.

It was then impressive for a Viper.

I guess I knew that Yamaha leaves a lot on the table when it comes to performance. Simple tweeks make all the difference.

Good to hear that you like the 3 inch Sandale. I think I will go that way as well. I have already received a Big Venom clutch kit with orange primary and secondary spring.

What size of flash did you with if you don't mind me asking?

What BOV was ran together with the 3» heartbreaker and 240/270 race tunes - Stock, reversed stock or aftermarket BOV?

150 miles today hurricane 270 race 3" sandale hyperflow. Octane boost with fillup Temps -14c everything is good. Very good lol. But I will get the update flash anyway to be safe.

Did not Ben at Turbo Dynamics have a thread about aftermarket BOVs causing a lean condition beacuse it was overboosting vs. the stock BOV on their TD MAX 17 tune?

Would the super efficient 3» heartbreaker exhaust from Sandale and this BOV lean out the tune even more?

Good Hurricane and Sandale are supplying a fix with updated tunes!

Evo 4 and now the midrange is awesome, you will like it,alot lol

Are these the RACE TUNES ONLY?

Dave, I assume with a stock MODDED muffler there is not this issue, and only pertains to the ultra hi flowing Sandale correct?

thanks

Depends how you look at it with the BOV... if the stock one can't hold the boost and bleeds off then the tune will go rich as it is not seeing the boost it is tuned for. We saw a huge upgrade going to the Turbosmart BOV, it just allowed us to see the boost we needed to see. Hope this makes sence.
Like I mentioned above, we have no experience with the TD tunes so I will not comment on them but in fairness to Ben and TD there's no doubt his tunes are great.

Dan,
This is pertaining to the 3inch exhaust with the Hurricane tunes. We tested the 270T tune with our HeartBreaker and let's just say it makes a pile more hp then 270... so it is up to the end user but I would suggest an update.
You will be fine with the modded muffler.

Thanks Dave, building strong business relationships and friendships is what we want to be known for a long with superior top notch customer service which is why we posted our findings! Being humble and honest will go very far, thank you for being so easy to deal with, calling me on a Sunday to report your findings out in the field is outstanding.

Mike

So just to clarify, by adding the Turbosmart BOV, this will NOT cause overboost more than the intended PSI for the respective tune. Is that correct?
