Has anyone bought and installed the Schmidt Bros Motor Sports sloppy steering kit?
I bought one this spring and just now got around to installing it....
I fought for an hour with installing this kit before I discovered that the new bushings that were provided didn't have a big enough center hole to allow the bolt to go through it.
Has anyone else had this problem with this particular kit?
Neither bushing will allow the bolt to go all the way through it.
Am I missing something here?

looks like it wasn't machined out enough. maybe call them & see what they say to do.

is there any burs on the inside? maybe clean the bolt with some emery cloth?
or take a drill bit just slightly bigger & open the bushing, but make sure you drill straight. (last resort type of thing)

any of your friends have a lathe?

The design of that Sloppy Steering Kit from SBM looks real familiar to the UP bushman original idea. It's nice to know other people know your product works. They original product is still cheaper :moon:. By the way put bushing in a vice protecting the outside from scorring it. Use a 29/64" drill and that will give you the clearance you need for the bolt.

I don't see any burs.....and the other bushing/bolt are the same way. I would say you were right on it not being manufactured correctly. I don't really want to "dress" the bolt, if I don't have to. I guess I expect the bushing to be correct from the manufacturer, that is why I bought from them instead of making it myself. :-)
I'll call them tomorrow and see what they want to do.....they are pretty good about support, I think.
I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem with this kit?

Yes, I wish I had ordered from you UP.....
Thanks very much for the info needed to correct the bushing, I might try that if I have to, but no snow here yet, so I can wait for them to send me the correctly manufactured bushing at this point.
It was kind of a wasted Sunday in that respect, though.........

Ummm, maybe the manufacture of the Sloppy Steering Kit was indeed sloppy!

I talked with them today and they told me that they had a bad shipment of the bushings come in and that I needed to bore it out a little more for the bolt to fit.
I guess I got missed when they called and told people that the bushings were not correct.
too bad...it would have saved me an hour or two. Now I have to "mod the mod" ! haha

Thanks all............

UpBushman's kit was awesome and did a good deed in taking up all the slack in the front end...don't forget to support the hard working people on this site!

What's the say - "Plagiarism is the best form of flattery" something like that?

You are very patient... don't you just love it when something is made wrong and they ask you to fix it! Service??:o| I know things go wrong but a company should bend over backwards to fix it.
