Picked up this code that last two mornings on start up - a very cold start up.
Sled fired no problem, and threw this code until it had fully ewarmed up, then went away. Did it again this am.
Have read the manual.
Does anyone have experience with this?
I have looked but cant find info on where the sensor is even located on the engine.
Any insight would be helpful
Thanks

Knock sensor is located on main engine block between cylinder 1 & 2 and below coolant temp sensor (which is in head). Forward side of engine.

Haven't heard of this happening but it should be torqued to 15 ft lb if you wanted to check it. It's a little bit of a pain to get to. Also has the wire coming off of it so you need to notch a socket to tighten it. (Not sure if there is a pre-made socket to fit it or not)

Do not overtighten. It may not work at all or too tight it will affect operation. Yes, 15 ft lbs.

Do the sensors go bad? and give false readings.
Or do I have a legit problem.
Bad fuel perhaps?

It’s possible that you got a bad one, but not common at all. I would try to re torque it. But as mentioned better have a good torque wrench and proper torque. Very important. Had a buddy that had a issue years ago on a cat two smoke and his was over torqued. Not same symptom or sled as yours but be certain it’s torqued properly. Not sure if you could follow wire up from sensor and unplug from wire harness first and possible use a really deep well socket? Take a look at a parts picture maybe just replace the damn thing ? Depending on cost. Sled under warranty? Trust your dealer?Do the sensors go bad? and give false readings.

It’s number 3 on above photo. Not a cheap part. Not a great image of where it is. But it’s not hard to find. Maybe just check to see if it’s loose?

From Cat service manual:
K n o c k S e n s o r: The knock sensor is installed onto the front of the engine. 1. Disconnect the knock sensor from the main harness; then connect the red meter lead to the wire connection; then connect the black meter lead to the black bottom of the knock sensor. Knock sensor resistance must be 504-616 ohms at 20°C (68°F). 2. Install the knock sensor and tighten to 19 ft-lb.
Be careful to not drop or shock knock sensor as that can damage it.

Its a '18, with 8600 km - way out of warranty. Dealer is great but its power hour now with new snow so dont have time to take it in.It’s possible that you got a bad one, but not common at all.
