i compared the three similar models (standard, fx and gt) for 2007. all have the same clutch specs, springs, weights etc. EXCEPT the standard and fx have a secondary reduction of 18/41 and the gt has 20/41. does anybody have any input on how this affects the machines in real life? Ie. has any one rode a gt and an fx together- did you notice any diffeence in acceleration and/or top speed?

Thats probably why stock/Freeride my Standard only made 82mph on dream meter.

every gear change has an effect, lower gearing = more torque, faster acceleration and lower top end. unless you are speed freak, lower gearing can really make-up for a lack of HP

with the 18/41 your lookin at a therotical top speed of 86 with the 20/41 its a 101 top speed. now i say therotical cause thats what the sled would go without any loses and there are always loses so u realy get to the top speed. the lower the gearing the closed it is to real life. thats running at 11200 rpms. using just the motor speed and some math with ur gear ratios u can find out how fast u can go.

karl and terret725- i agree with both of your logic completely, those are my thoughts as well. just curious for a 'seat of the pants' answer from a fellow member that may have had a chance to compare the two versions. trying to optimize between speed freak and acceleration freak in me... :-o

Makes sense.I estimate my real top speed is actually about 75-80mph since can pass cars along side Interstate just barely.
