Currently my stock skis are shimmed to eliminate darting, but before I do any riding I will be swapping them out for my Slydogs. My question is do I want to shim the Slydogs (I've heard you put the shim in the front of the bumper)? Does the darting reappear if I leave the shims off? Looking for feedback from those who have run Slydogs with or without shims.

Should not have to shim Sly Dogs. Their rubber mount causes skis to be slightly tiped up at the nose. These skis need to be toed in 1/4", contrary to other skis being toed out.

My experience showed that the front of the carbide was too high. If you don't shim the front, you'll be using only the rear portionof the wearbar. You'll also notice more wear on the rear of the ski. Tried a 1/4" shim first and it was still to high. I anded up with 3/8" and it's perfect. Agree with the toe IN dimension. Tried with 0 toe in and it hunted. Per Slydog's install directions and 1Crazecars experience, I reset to 1/4" and it tracks straight now.

You are exactly right on shimming the front. Just got thru checking mine after 30 miles of riding and crossing cement intersections and all the wear is on the rear of the host bar. Trying to wear down the rear portion of the carbide and the tail of the ski. Just got my shims out of storage. Bergstrom right off the top advises shimming 3/8" in front.
Good info. Thanks.---Jim
I'm heading north tomorrow and I'll see if I have an old set of hyfax and cut a couple of 3/8" shims if what I have on my stock skis aren't enough. How long are you cutting the shims?

Stock skis need to be shimmed at the rear. Length of shim should be width of rubber bumper and about 3/4" wide.

Thanks iasleder. Scott Bergstrom is the man! I live very near his shop, so I get totalk to him in person. Every recommendation he's given me has been spot on. He hedged on the 1/4 and said 3/8 would be better. LOL, ya gotta' listen to him, cause once again , he was spot on! Shim the front 3/8 and make sure you are toed in at least an 1/8 and you'll be good to go jwifferdill.
