Should the bottom inside of the airbox carb boots be wet with gas?

Hi all, silly question probably but I recently gave the 4 carbs on the rx1 the yearly cleaning and got it running, took it for a short ride then back home roughly 8km and I noticed the rx has a little bit of a gassy smell to it in the engine area, not terrible but a little fumy (is that normal?) I took off the air box and I noticed the boots on the air box that go onto the carbs, the bottom rubbers are wet with fuel with some spatters on the air box bottom just where the boots end outward (inside the air box) its not like a drip drip trickle leak but they seem kinda wet , also the top lid that goes on the airbox just above the boot openings has gas spatters.just wondering if its normal or is there something that I need to be checking ,just want to make sure before I keep riding it,thankyou for your time.
04 rx1
4 carbs
stock
pilots are 2 turns out across
no fuel coming out top carb breathers
carb boots to carbs checked multiple times for proper seating
