Everyone needs to check their Sidewinder air filters. Some of these are coming oiled (and some with a lot of oil) on them. This filter should have zero oil on it and should be dry. If you are not capable of washing it yourself, contact your dealer.

Are you sure??? No oil... mine have just a little oil on it and I will let it on... that will prevent dust to enter in compressor if we have dust... of course

I suggest leaving it oiled as well especially if your going to run the stock belt. It gives off more dust than the 8DN.Are you sure??? No oil... mine have just a little oil on it and I will let it on... that will prevent dust to enter in compressor if we have dust... of course

Yes, this filter is used in other powersports applications where it is oiled, but in the snowmobile application the oil is not supposed to be there.

Intake air is sucked in up by the handlebars. I hope you don't have belt dust way up there.

What is the "proper" way to clean it??Everyone needs to check their Sidewinder air filters. Some of these are coming oiled (and some with a lot of oil) on them. This filter should have zero oil on it and should be dry. If you are not capable of washing it yourself, contact your dealer.

I thought my 05 Mach Z was safe as well. As long as the air box is on top of the primary clutch I'm not going to trust it
Easy test to see whether it's restricting. Try without it. Foam when oiled is best filter but most restrictive especially when dripping like has been reported. I have a feeling ULmER found a gain and possibly reason for variance in hp on some. But your call.

Guys its easy to wash, warm soapy water, let air dry and reinstall, try it dry first to see if you like it,or your SW likes it,test and check, then if you feel the need to reoil, just add some K&N spray oil,not a lot just a little and test and recheck, but like allen suggested, dry works better for air to filter thru,so more clean air, more hp,like said, your call.
