Silly

Nothing new there! I had a Vroom motor on my Super Cycle in the 1960s ! LOL Yamaha better check the patents:)

I think it is hilarious that Yamaha thinks a couple of generations of consumers are so fixated on the sound of an ICE power plant that they would want a fake engine/air pump as a replacement. YikeS.. This is likely a placeholder patent just for CYA in case it turns out to be needed.

And it would be counterproductive as it would use battery power to spin this thing. Isn't range the name of the game in electric vehicles?

yes, which is why its hilarious/stupid.

Apparently there is an entire market for electronic exhaust enhancements. One example: https://ixsound.eu/
But a quick look shows that every vehicle manufacturer has an electronic exhaust system for one reason or another on one or more vehicles in their product line.

The thing I value the most about the EVs I have owned is how quiet they are. I love the sounds of a motor making big power but I also love (more apparently) a quiet cabin on my commutes.

Think of all the money they can make on fake spark plugs!
