So I took out a 2009 or 10?? Ski-doo Renegade 4-Tec on a demo ride.....A GOOD KICK YOUR BUT RIDE....
Here is what I thought. (By the way, I ride an attak)
Steering.....So easy
Bump riding ability, far superior
Ergonomics...Better
Engine...............It just does not have the punch the Yamaha has.
Now, I think the apples to apples comparison would be the Renegade to the XTX Nytro. That I can't compare. I also think fit and finish, Yamaha is superior. And Quality, well I have put on 5,500 miles on my attak since 2006 and I change the oil, filter and just add gas :=>

I think you are right in saying that the 1200 should be compared to the Nytro. I have an 09 XTX and have ridden the 1200 Renegade and it in no way is the machine my XTX is!

The 1200 feels heavy, doesn't have the low end grunt the Nytro has, It probably takes the bumps better(it's definately softer than my XTX) but I don't like the feel of the front end.

The lighter sled is not going to have the bump penetration that a heavier sled has - they feel WAY different in the chop going from one to the other, even if they have very similar performance (mostly due to shock calibration?). Not saying that's good or bad for either, just an observation. FWIW

Eventhought the Doo has a 1200cc motor the XTX is faster everywhere, including Top End...

The Doo camp says there faster on top, but Yesterday I hit 117mph/189km/h (112 GPS) on a stock XTX....I yet to see a stock 4tec come close.....

I seen a 1200 this year do 115mph radared in 3000 feet i'll find out more what was done to it. I think just clucthing

Oh, I don't know about that one... The 1200 is fast up top with just clutching... I don't think there is much left on the XTX with just clutching. Maybe 2 mph and that really has to do with the stock helix, not allowing to shift out all the way. It would be a close race. On Doo-talk, they also compare the 1200 to the Nytro and not the XTX.

You have by far one of the fastest nytros i have seen, most dont go much past 104 gps i do have a friend who has the 08 shortie and he has gpsed his at 109 once, and i told him that was sweet top speed, and now there are some of these longer tracked nytros like yours running 112 gps that is awsome,i saw your vid,and asked you than if you had run your gps,and now you have, that is still amazing, alot of good apexs have not hit 112 gps, even on great conditions,i would have to see with my owne eyes a 1200 doo running 115 gps or radar,it must of been on bare ice with some good lube, and they must of got there clutching dialed in much better than they did on my 08 xp8 i had,its best run was 113 gps on bare ice for all of 3000 ft.

I have know a guy with a shorty nytro that gets 116 mph on GPS. It's got Filters, Exhaust, PC111, and the Ignition module.

I would agree with this... Just look at what Allen sells and he gives a 3-4mph on top end and 2-4 sled lengths from bottom to top, just with the header change into a stock muffler. No add a PCIII and filters and Joe Gibbs racing oil and you will see Apex territory (150hp, plus good top speed). I'm also talking XTX, since the approach angle is much better for top end.
