If my dealr wasn't such an a--, Iprobably would have kept my 500ss one more year. I enjoyed the sled. It was a sleeper w/ the old small block six in it. My mileage was consistantly 14 to 15 mpg with that sled. I rode with SDI's and I knoe they were hard pressed to get that but they rode really hard. The Hyfax wear sucked (500 miles per set). The oil consumption was terrible on mine. I was the first to add oil every day in Old Forge. The precision skis now they are a story on their own. They have to be the most unpredictable I have ever used. From condition to condition you never could have confidense on how they were going to handle. The one thing that doo did that I had on my sled was the 1+1 seat. With the family that was awesome to snap on and off and didn't affect performance one bit. Last note, notice how Doo dropped their seat 1 1/2" to lower C.G. Hey once the snow gets here our group dosen't care what we ride as long as were together having fun. And thats what its all about!!

Rotax! said:I believe the torque may have been an issue. A 600 twin would produce more torque than a 600 tripple in stock form.
This is based on the particular engine's characteristics. Give the tripple a longer stroke and the twin a shorter one, and you'll find that their positions are reversed. If they're both designed to MAXIMIZE torque, the tripple will win.

Its almost as if Doo, Poo and Cat went in cahoots with each other and brought on the twins at the same time to reduce cost and increase profits at the same time. I think it was a scam to the consumers about the twin vs triple weight thing when the OEMs spent all their time and energy building a new lighter chassis and fitting twins in them. If the triples had the equivalent R&D as todays twins and fitted into the new light weight chassis, I don’t think triples would be portrayed as heavyweight! I bet Rev and Firecat fans would love to see a lightweight screaming tripple fitted with SDI and a power valve setup. I guess we’ll never know because OEMs have brainwashed the consumers that we don’t want triples. To bad Yamaha missed the triple boat back in the early 90's when Poo XLTs, Formula IIIs, Machs, and ZRTs ruled the market because they were triples. Imagine if we had the SRXs, V-max sx triples or Vipers back in the early 90's? They would of ruled the triple market!
I guess thats all history now anyways. Yamaha has something going with the 4-strokes. In a few years, I bet yamaha will be holding the torch for others to follow.

None of the 06 Doo's I have sat on had a lowered seat. The APEX also got a lower front-end compared to the RX-1, since it's using the RS-spindles...

Jepp jepp... Should be a pretty interesting year this, with the new APEX'es... Can't wait for the rider-reports to start ticking in.

I think Yamaha is allready holding it. Based on the ad campaign for ski-doo I think they're scared right now. To make IMO false claims about their product shows that they know how good the Yamaha product is.
