Hello! I was wondering if someone could please provide some quick instruction for removing the skid from my phazer. Un-bolting the rear is a no brainer, but I'm wondering what I need to do un-bolt the front of the skid?

Has anyone run the low snow wheels. I put about 2200 miles on the stock hyfax, so that's probably not too bad. But, I was wondering if anyone has run the low snow wheels on the phazer? If so, how did they work? Anyhow, I want to install new hyfax as well as inspect and lube everything so I need to get the skid out. I think I might have bent the dreaded bottom link as well!

Thanks,
Tom

The Phazer skid is easy to pull and the wheels at the bends help a ton. That the place they wear the most.

Pull the rear bolts and then pull the front bolts and the skid will pull right out.

Hmmm... I must be missing something? When I look underneath at the front of the skid, it looks like the drive shaft and drive wheels need to come out as well. I'm a newbie to snowmobiles so go easy on me if I'm using the wrong terminology.

you do not need to pull the drive wheels(cogs) on any Yamaha sled to pull the skid.

If your just look'n to change the slides and inspect and grease you don't need to pull the complete skid out... Use'n a large screwdriver and a big hammer you can just shoot them out the rear track windows... That is after you remove the front retain'n screw and spray lube up the slides...

I figured I should post a quick update. I've attached a blow up of the skid assembly that I found online. It looks like you can just unbolt the front and back of the skid from the tunnel, collapse the skid itself and pull the skid out the side while leaving the track and drive shaft/wheels installed. Does that sound right to everyone?

I bought new hyfax today, and I'll probably pull the skid and install them tonight. I'll try to take some pictures and post them so that others looking for guidance on how to remove the skid will have more detail. I'll post what I find with the bottom link as well. I'm going to find out why my rear suspension sags 7" under it's own weight if it kills me!

Yes that is correct. You shouldn't even have to collapse the suspension. Just remove the front and rear bolts

Well, just got done pulling and re-installing the skid. If you have a second person helping you, it's pretty easy. However, I would recommend releasing the rear torsion springs and sliding them up and out of the way so you can collapse the rear of the skid. At least it seemed to make things much easier for me.

See the post about 'Phazer saggy butt' for a follow up on my rear suspension sag issues.

Anyhow, I was really writing just to report that pulling the skid isn't that bad so if you are thinking about installing hyfax (or any other maintenance that requires pulling the skid), you should have NO PROBLEM doing it yourself. I have to pull the skid back out for bushings and hyfax so I'll try to take pictures and post a small set of directions.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help!
