I am in the process of putting a float plate on my 07 Apex and have a question about the location of the riv-nut holes. In the pictures attached, you will see that one of the holes lined up on a curved surface and the other hole lined up over the plastic access panel on the bottom of the sled. It seems really weird that the holes would be in such odd locations (I can't see that plastic cover providing much support for the float plate and I am not sure how you would possibly install a riv-nut on a curved surface).
I am pretty confident that I have the plate located properly (it is centered side to side) and the back up the plate is flush with the front heat exchanger.
Anyone else run into this problem?

You sure that is the right skid plate for that sled. For my 06 Attak the holes are in the front and rear corners. You could drill new holes where you want them.

I am pretty sure that it is the correct part... I bought it new from Port Yamaha and the instructions that were included in the bag of parts refer specifically to the Apex. The plate fits the existing body parts like a glove... it is just the goofy location of the pre-drilled holes that are throwing me for a loop! Here is a picture of the plate with the pre-drilled holes circled. It seems really odd that the holes don't line up with each other from the left to the right sides. Do you think this was a production goof up?

I think that I would drill new holes. Why don't you talk to the dealer?

The dealer wasn't much help, so I just called Skinz directly... I was really surprised that they answered the phone on a Saturday! The guy I talked to said their plates are pre-drilled for the newer (08 or 09) Apex models that have an access opening for the oil filter. Since my sled is an 07, the holes are not going to be in the correct spots due to the changes in the access panel locations. He recommended just finding a safe place (meaning enough clearance) to drill some new holes. I will post pictures of where the new holes work on my sled.
