Haven't even been on my new sled yet due to lack of snow, and now I find that it won't start...just as we get snow.

I hear a click near the battery, and then a smooth buzzing noise coming from up front. Battery seems to be fine, boosted it, still nothing. Voltage looks normal. I had it started maybe 3 days ago just fine. My dad said it did it to him the other day when he tried to start both our sleds up but then it eventually fired up.

Does anyone have any ideas? Really disappointed right now.

EDIT: The battery that came with the sled was bad. Dealer replaced ~3 weeks ago.

Is it possible that it may be the battery? My voltage stays around 12V, even while being boosted.

So it was the Battery?
I don't know, my previous battery (which was bad) would turn over and then slowly cut out, this one doesn't seem to be doing anything like that. As you can hear in the video, it makes something run, I honestly have no idea what it is.

It doesnt sound like the starter is engaging....there probably is a reason why the battery initially died...I hardly would believe 2 bad batteries in a row. Take it back to the Dealer.

I think that's what I'll be doing Monday if it doesn't end up being the battery again. Initially, I was getting ~14ish volts out of this one when it was replaced, now down to 12 even with a boost.

Bit of an update...Had my neighbor (mechanic) come over and take a look, turned the primary a little, now when I start it I hear really loud grinding...any idea if this will be covered under my factory 1-year warranty?

Sounds like you have a bad ring gear. It should be covered under warranty.

I just joined the no-start club today. Have about 4-5" and thought I'd go for a first short run in our field. I went to start my 15 r-tx-dx and just clicked. it was about 12 degrees F today. It fired right up the 2 times I started it a couple months back. My neighbor with a 15 El-Tigre 800 started his last time I started mine and his fired right up today. I put my battery/charger analyzer on it and it said 12.1 volts. I charged it for hours and it turns over a few times and the battery just dies. Good thing I have a reliable 2001 Yamaha built SXR-700 that I could run around on today and it started and ran flawless. So I left the dead viper on the charger and I'll try again tonight but that's no good even if it does start. I can't trust it now with that battery. I did get a bad cell error on battery analyzer. That error went away but came back once again while charging so suspect it's a battery issue. I have a trip on the 23rd so need to get this "new" sled fixed. So far not off to a good start with this sled, but hope it gets better.

Update: I tried to start it one more time with a full charge on it according to my (very reliable) charger. It turned over several times and died again. And yes the kill switch was off, gauge lights and front/tail lights were on. Off to the dealer again to get this sorted out. I don't feel so bad Mods, I'm only 30 minutes away.

Same here, first battery was no good a few hours after I left the dealer (I live ~7 hours away from where I bought it from). Really wish they would've checked that before sending me off with the sled. These aren't things I'd have expected when going with a basically new machine (130kms), not to mention a Yamaha. Hopefully for you it's just the battery and don't run into any further issues.

I read last year that the dealer was notified last year to FULLY charge the battery before delivery. So lets say he doesn't and you take your Viper someplace very cold and let it sit overnight, and because the battery does not have enough of a charge it freezes the battery. BOOM, instant starting issues, and bad battery in a new sled. If you take delivery of a new Viper and your dealer did not fully charge the battery (how many really do?) make sure you ride it a few hours right away or put the charger on it.

Sled is at the dealer as of Monday. Trails around me are just starting to open too...:o|

Hopefully it's just a part which they have in stock.
