Tighten the limiter strap to keep the nose down if thats your preference and loosen the track to the point that it almost ratchets. Dipping in the snow to cool them down is part of riding.

Also temper the slides with a blow torch before they are installed on the machine helps them last longer.

mine isnt hard on slides at all,this as been beat to death here,they wear fast at first then stop and last for thousands of miles,just installed my third set in 11500 miles,its a non issue for me,pulled the strap 1 hole when new
