LeeKo said:Correct. I did silicone the 2 slots and still got the the build up. I think the snow is just coming from the belly pan around the a-arms. I added some more duct tape and put on a Roest skid plate. I will see if this helps next weeekend.
thanks
Let me know how you like that skid plate... I have been running the float plate and its a pile of poo... I cut the hole to try to relieve some of the ice build up but still it just packs in there and pushes the skid plate lower to the ground... at one point I think I only had about 3 inches between the ground and the plastic float plate... junk.... Needless to say I have since taken it off the sled and am now looking for some alternative protection.

I have not heard one good thing about those float plates. Snow/Ice build up always going to push out those rivets/bolts. Having a nytro comes with a pre-requisete for a heated garage to thaw it out after a deep ride. Is there an after market custom screen kit for the nytro now?

- Pre-filter the two vents in the hood next to the headlight
- self adhesive foam around the headlight
- pre-filter over the sidepanel vents
- duct tape over the vent in front of the oil reservior
I did all the above back in 2008 and I've never had snow ingestion issues since.
As for the skidplate, throw away the crappy aluminum nutserts that Yamaha gives you, and install 1/4-20 steel nutserts. Replace all 6 screws with 1/4-20 stainless hardware and large fender washers and cinch everything down TIGHT. Your skidplate will not be able to bow no matter how much ice gets in there.

I used 4 hose clamps to hold the skidplate to the subframe, worked like a charm.

Nickolai, what pre-filter material did you use? how did you adhere it as well?
Nikolai, how did you fasten the mesh in the holes beside the headlight? Got the mesh for it but not the skill to do something with it

I bought pre-filter material like SLP sells. Ski-Doo dealers sell it in an 18"x18" square which is enough to do all four vents. For the side panel screens I used 3m adhesive spray, and for the vents by the headlight I just used hot glue.
