Spring removal from mono shock

I’ve got the spring compressed a little bit but I’m just not sure how to slip that collar with the slot off.

Take flat screw driver and push the alum ice crapper cup down the shaft just enough to slip it off. Does that make sense? Right now its jamb all the way to the end of the shaft.
