My starter is cooked and the Yamaha replacement would cause me to take out a second mortgage on my house.
I know the starter from royal dist. is good price, but I hear they don't last long. Does anyone know the difference between the apex starter and the rx1. There seems to be lots of those around at a reasonable price.
Thanks in advance

I purchased a good used starter from the Parts Barn and dropped that in this spring. As easy as it was to replace, I have no regrets. If I have to do it again, I will have still saved a pile of money.
Of course, you don't want to worry about it failing at a bad time. But the way the first one failed, I had plenty of warning that it was dying.
Good luck!

I have some used ones and also stock new ones for kimpex. Not sure if the kimpex starter is the same as royal distributing.

Well I guess Ill have to go with a used one. If anyone has a good, low mileage apex starter that they want to sell at a reasonable price, then let me know. Thanks

Make sure your contacts are good. Battery is good so the starter isn't straining. I spray all the electrical terminals, grounds, etc with WD40 on all boats, autos, etc. since 1984 and never have electrial issues. If I do it's at the very high end of mileage for the part. My 2007 Attak had 10000 and still started strong.

3 more months of boating in NH but the Maple tree are starting to turn and a cold snowy winter is coming soon for all of us!My starter is cooked and the Yamaha replacement would cause me to take out a second mortgage on my house.

I have a 2012 Apex XTX with 25,000 miles on it and need to replace the Starter. The lowest cost I can find OEM for 8HG-81890-00-00 is $395.00 delivered. Can anyone suggest a reliable aftermarket starter I can use instead?

Travis of Barn of Parts. That's where I purchased the one fo rmy 08 and has worked flawlessly since it was installed. Normally, I would go OEM but with the relative ease of which the starter can be replaced, I opted for aftermarket. Now, if it was the Nytro starter replacement, I think I would stick with OEM as I wouldn't want to have to do that install twice.

on the apex, you can go with almost any aftermarket one as they are way easier to replace than on a phazer or any of the rs/sr chassis sleds. i would go with a middle of the road one price wise as have not had much luck with getting the cheapest ones to last much beyond their warenty period.
just checked and it is almost time for me to stock starter and stator for my 11 xtx as it is around 22000 mi on stockers but i have replaced the battery on it 4 times already as i heard it turning slow on start up each time.
