I pulled a boner. Tried starting my sled with old gas, wouldn't go. Didn't drain it, just added about 3 gallons of fresh gas, but still wouldn't fire. Finally drained and added fresh gas. Fired after about 20 cranks, but wouldn't start. By then I think the damage was done. You can hear the starter turning but it doesn't engage anymore (maybe 10-20% of the time and it drops out). There was smoke which I though was exhaust smoke, but now I'm thinkin I probably overheated and smoked something in the starter (didn't smell like electrical). Where do you start pulling the starter apart and is there anything to be extra careful with when taking apart.
Any info or thoughts appreciated,
Thanks,
Greg

I have never had a problem starting mine with old gas. Every year at the beginning of the season I just open the hood take the off the box and squirt some ether in there and it fires right up. i know it's probably to late for you now, but good to remember for in the future.

This is the first time I've had trouble. Stabilizer and it's been good to go the last 2 years. It seems like a lot of people do have trouble with stale gas/dirty carbs though.
