Starting issue - frozen relay - which one do I replace?

Actually insulating the relay has nothing to due with keeping it warm.... It would keep it from frost. The frost is what causes the grease to "freeze". It would be much like when people put burlap around plants, has noting to due with sub freezing temps, but to keep the frost off the plant.

Anyways, I took the time to pull relays from blown fx...as I suspected these are standard 12v-16v 5 pin dioded Micro relays. You can get at any auto store, and even from most of your own vehicles, especially newer vehicles. When Yamaha wanted relays, they accepted bids, in this case they chose omron, they are an extremly common relay. Me personally I would replace em with Bosch.

That link has the specs.

Thank You for this info - but I don't have a relay in front of me - which of the G8 style five pin relays is it G8QN? G8SN?

Never thought of it that way... Makes sense.

Yamaha dealer did not have any updated relays in stock - said he would order me one. When I asked him how much - he said between $40 and $60? Is that what they are really worth? I am finding this dealer to be very expensive.

That relay is 8.99 online. My local Napa had non in stock he said 12.69 my cost. We are a repair shop, we probably get about 40% off...meanin the part might be 17 bucks walk in.

Was at the dealer today for a new updated relay. Relay was 8 something and the new clip/holder? is 3.99. So around 12 bucks total.

They are are backorder.

Iceman, i would give another dealer a call.

I picked up a new fuel pump relay the other day and paid 9.49 and also picked up a starter solenoid(which they call a starter relay assembly) and that was 39.99. Make sure your dealer is talking about the proper part.
