Every single trail pass I put on my sled does not stick directly onto my sled.....and I have never put one on window to begin with. Always other spots.
I always have some black vinyl here.....and I always stick the pass to the vinyl first in house. Then I trim the vinyl just a tad larger around pass, and then stick the vinyl to sled. Vinyl is easily removable with hair blower anytime, and leaves NO residue ever.
Vinyl can be bought at any sign shop or online ect....its cheap.
Trail passes are a way stronger/thicker glue and not meant to be easily removed.

Most brake cleaners will destroy a windshield. I would not recommend.
If you have a specific brand that has worked for you without any damage please share.

What I do now is, I place a layer of clear packing tape(very sticky) on the windshield cut to the size of the trail pass. Then apply the trail pass over the packing tape, so no one can tell what I've done. Then you can remove the packing tape with the pass and start all over again with next years pass. Quite simple.

A frugal buddy of mine uses boiling water and elbow grease. Pour it on a few times to get the sticker and plastic hot, peal and pour more on as required. I don't think its the easiest way but it works. There also is a low budget cleaner called Totally Awesome which works pretty good. Cool name too!

As a dealer we run into this all the time. Best thing we have used is heat, duct tape and Plexas Spray polish. We can get the passes and stickers off the windshields with no scratches 98% of the time.
1) Heat with heat gun or hair drier till warm.
2) slowly pull off pass or decal.
3) use good strong duct tape and blot this area fast, sticky part of tape on window. I like to make a backwards roll around my hand. this should lift off most of the glue residue.
4) use Plexas spray polish to remove any glue residue left. I use a Healthy dose in this area and let sit for a few minutes. I agitate with fingers ( not finger nails). Then wipe clean with a microfiber towel.
This Spray polish does not seem to have any harsh chemicals in it that would dull or scratch the surface area.
Plexas Spray polish works wonders on just about the entire sled for cleaning and polishing. It’s not cheap $20-$25.00 per can but us a must in our shop.
Heat windshield from the back side works best because the heat is concentrated between the windy and adhesive not the sticker base material and adhesive. I find that 90% of the adhesive comes with the sticker instead of staying on the windy if you heat it from the back of the windy.

Exactly what I have done with success the last several years. I have gone as far as placing another clear piece of pkg tape over the sticker just to make sure it stays secured. If asked I just tell the DNR guy it was starting to peel off so I used clear tape to stick it back down.
