stiffer suspension on rs vector

Dialing out some weight transfer will couple the rear suspension earlier and help on bumps, but adjusting the torsion spring cams really only adjusts the ride height, not the spring tension. To stiffen the skid, he'll need to replace the torsion springs with heavier ones, and it would help to do something with the shocks. (at the very least, put a clicker in the rear to provide some actual dampening...) Some riders change or adjust the center spring, but I have not done so. Just my opinion.

ya i have to order him some new torsion springs when i go to work tonight. and i think thats all he is doing is the torsion springs.

IMO....that's about 20% of what the total job needs to be. What do you think Mike (2morestrokes)?

Agreed. Springs were actually my last upgrade. Just icing on the cake for me. After setting all of the adjustments, I think the shocks are most important for ride complaints. Not sure what the rider is after, as he said he wants things stiffer. Is he a big guy that just needs heavier springs to hold his weight or is he riding in big bumps? The springs will make it stiffer, but the shock work will stop the bottoming and the CRAZY rebound afterward.

I would start with replacing the rear shock if that worthless steel one is still on there. Make all of the right adjustments afterward starting with ride height, sit in, and transfer, and go farther if needed until he's happier. That stock shock just can't tame the spring action on big bumps, let alone with stiffer torsion springs. The Nytro didn't use that steel shock and they shoulda skipped it on the early Vector too. Almost like having no shock at all on there. JMHO.

If the guy's interested, I could talk to my dealer and see if he remembers what he did to the front shock. If memory serves, he made the compression stiffer because you could feel the front of the track crashing through the travel on the big hits. He compensated the stiffer compression with a variable rate spring from a Viper.

Thanks for all of the ideas but when we took his suspension out tuesday we found out that both rails needed to be replaced and some other things. so i think that is all the money he wants to spend.

for the record he isn't big he just like to jump it. and the vectors aren't made for jumping. I told him he should have just bought one of the used fx nytros we had at our dealership. but i guess he would rather stick money into his old one.

thanks

darren

Yeah, I like to ride mine in the rough stuff, but I don't do a whole lot of jumping with it. Kind of like jumping a Tahoe or something LOL.

haha ya exactly. and when we ride together and im hitting these nice size jumps with my fx nytro and he wants to hit them with his vector its kinda funny but he gets the job done.

stiffer???

Is he a real big dude??? i 'm 185 and couldn't bottom mine out on anything but the softest setting or jumping it or whatever. The socks suck there is no rebound controll but stiffer? it stutter bumps my but would just bounce off the seat stiffer was not the way to go. if he really wants it to ride nice get an m-10 but it will be softer not stiffer.

no he is tall but he is skinny prolly 160 or so. he doesn't want to spend that much money on the m-10 cuz thats what i told him to do right away, but he didn't justify the money for it.

If the guy really makes a habit of jumping this SUV, stiffer springs are in order. That's a lot of weight to be slamming back down on the ground. Shock work really needs to go along with the spring upgrade though. As srvfan said, the stock rear shock offers no rebound dampening, so stiffer springs would probably work like an ejector seat with that weak shock and launch the rider into orbit. :jump:

i had my front skid shock rebuilt and revalved.

I just bought an ohlins shock for the rear, the oem hydralic on the rear of the 05 is as cheap as it gets. The front shock is better, but it is not rebuildable, rechargable yes, but not rebuildable. Your friend will have to put out some dough if he truely wants a better ride. ;)!
