I removed the stub shaft from my '08 Nytro to try a product called Belzona to stop the clutch rattle. I notice that when indexed to a certian position I can feel some "slop" in the bearing. The sled has approx 4700 miles on it. do the stub shaft bearings go out and have to be replaced? If so, does anyone have a good source for buying the bearing because I am sure Yamaha is going to want an arm, leg and first born for this bearing.

I don't know, if my machine had that many miles I would expect to change a few bearings, even if that bearing was a few $$ hell that is a lot of epic miles and I don't think it owes you anything. Knowing you can expect that many miles out of a Yamaha bearing why would you change and maybe have one fail long before? I would stick with the one you know works.

Mills, Did the Belzona stop the rattle?

My 09 has 6800 miles with not a problem .....I think that bearing is in a oil bath too ......but if you have it apart you may as well replace it I guess....up to you

All,
I had the local Yamaha shop check the stub shaft bearing and they said it is good to go. During my conversation with their tech I jokingly said "thank God its good because I am sure Yamaha would want my left nut for a new one". With that the tech tried to look up the cost of a new stub shaft bearing and found that you cant get any of the individual parts for a stub shaft assembly. If anything within the stub shaft assembly goes wrong you can only buy a new assembly. Guess what they cost?!?!?! $425!!!!!!!
Now that I know the bearing is good I have to have the female spline of the stub shaft bead blasted and then I can try the Belzona product. When I get it done I will report out on ty4stroke what the results are.

Mills, if u go on a 2013 xtx parts diagram you can get the bearing seperate, shs pwersports sells them for about 43.00 if u look on a 09 parts diagram, they only show a whole assy, Let me know how the belzona works,
