Hey all,

I have an '09 RTX SE. Currently have 96 studs up the middle from the previous owner. Looks like they skipped a row and studded every other with a simple alternating pattern.

I'm looking for more traction and not too concerned with adding some more holes or studs. Looks like they had more studs in it because there are some additional holes in the track. I don't recognize the pattern.

Two questions:

1. How many studs can I put in without sacrificing too much speed or holeshot? I have a Schmidt Bros clutch kit and extra wheels.

2. What is the recommended Woodies stud length for the stock ripsaw 1 1/4" (I think) track?

Thanks!
Dave

You can go 144 which is plenty for trail riding. Length you are going to get a lot of different options! I had longer 1.450 to start last year and they rubbed. Now I have 1.3250 and I think those are fine but still rub on mine for some reason. I have mack studs which I think are a bit different lengths then other brands out there. That is what I've heard from other guys with more experience on the subject. So 144 of 1.325 would be the combo. I would say to use.

144 studs in the center, none on the outside, and Use 1.325 studs. The best price on studs I have seen and they last is John Masters. Also don't use stainless they don't last. Hope this helps

Woodys recommends 1.325, just didn`t seem to get enuf bite with those , been running , 144 , 1.450" Gold Diggers ,I also stud the outside , hooks up really good with this . you do need to keep the track tight . as for the studs on the outside I had over 7000 miles on this set up and 2 pulled on the inside and no problems with the edges.
I`m sure you`ll get plenty of opinions on this subject. Good Luck

Thanks for the responses so far. For sure I'm going to go with 144 up the middle. I'm not a big fan of going to the outside, I like a little more loose feeling in the corners. Main concern is hole shot and braking.

Anybody have a measurement overall length of the 1.325 Woodies? I'd like to chech and see what I have on there now.

Thanks!
Dave

Have you rode with that pattern yet? I was thinking about going that way with mine. From what I read skipping every other gives you more scratches going forward and a predictable slid in the corners. As for more 144 I would thing would be max and stick to the middle.

I have put about 500 miles on it with the 96. Seemed ok in the corners, braked ok, and tracked ok, but spun alot off the the line under a hard acceleration. Didn't stop as quickly as my Viper with 144.

I would go with the 1.45 if you like to do ocasionally drag racing on the lakes and just poprivet some aluminum flat syock to the tunnel protectors or some used slides.

I started out with 192 woodys gold diggers 1.325 and it was good traction for sure. But a little to much for tight trail riding turns!! Now i just run 144 and all studs down the middle. We have ice drags every year and i install the outside studs for that. I would only buy the gold diggers all others I have tried bend or break way easier.

Also i think they say studs 1/4 inch taller than your track. My last thought I would only run the taller nuts it helps keep your studs from bending
.
