I have a 06 RTX with the matching low reddish color windshield. I am looking to purchase a taller windshied due to sick of cold hands, face, neck...etc. Any sugestions on the kind or height. I was looking at the tall model on the yamaha website. Any feed back or suggestions would be apppreciated. THANKS

Also can some one tell me if the Tall windshield from Yamaha that uses the braces makes a lot of noise. I had a thundercat that when I installed the tall windshield made a horrible buffeting sound in my helmet. I want to buy the tall windshield for my APEX but not if it is loud.

I put on what I think is called a mid "high" from Yamaha. Still looks good, and wind protection is good. No noise issues that ryama noted.

I would also go with the medium height windshield. Part # SMA-8FT96-22-BK
I accidently ordered the tall windshield initially and it's definitely tall, and came with the brackets. I never installed it so I can't speak to any of the wind noise. Unless you're hyper sensitive to the cold, I'd say go with the medium. It helps out for wind protection but still looks sporty enough.

Mid here as well. I am happy with it! No experience with the tall one. But it might be the one to run in serious cold temperatures.

Well I have the tall one and it protects you from the cold for sure, but if you go with the factory one you need the braces. Cobra which is now powermadd has a tall version and it doesn't need the braces. I didn't notice any noise with the addition of the tall windshield either. It is so warm however that when riding in warmer temps I usually install my stock Attak windshield. Even standing up your pretty well covered with the tall one. We got it (the Attak) for my wife and she wanted the tall windshield and mirrors. Then she let me ride it and now it's mine.

I had the stock snot gard on my 07 rtx and i bought the med- black with flames from yammi.. works great... just the right height to keep wind off chest/neck, but not too high that you get that "woofin" noise in the helmet at very high speeds. no brackets required... and for the $90 bucks.. well worth the upgrade... especially from the small red one you have!
cheers

So the difference between the factory Apex 08 and the medium is about 1.5 inches in height. For those of you who have installed the medium. Is there that much of a significant increase in protection from wind? I just cant see it making a big difference but really would like to hear from you who have the medium shields.

Stock 08 apex's (ER's, 40th, etc... excluding RTX's)came with a semi-medium height windsheild... my 07 RTX had a small piece of plastic.. looked amazing.,, but cold as hell! my 08 40th has a stock (medium) height,,,, and the aftermarket one i now have on my RTX is about 1.5" higher... the stock 06 RTX has a very small one also so going to a med height makes a BIG difference. at least it did for me.... a few times out riding @ -25 celsius changes someones mind quite fast!

I do most of my riding after midnight....
The crew and I do most of our riding at night (we like to see the on-coming headlights and that's when the go go bar is open). As a result it's usually well below zero when we leave the camp -- I was having the same problem you have with the cold hands, neck, etc. I actually went with the extra tall with the supports, and what a difference! Unfortunately, I think that they discontinued the extra tall last year, but you may be able to find one if you call around to the dealers. It doesn't make any noise at speed, but the brackets can be a pain when you need access the engine compartment. Overall, I have been really happy with the windshield, once you get used to the slightly different look. One other bonus with the extra tall is that I have really great access to my windshield bag now, the stock windshield was so low that I had a hard time digging into the bag tucked down under the short shield through the bars.

I put the tall yamaha windshield on when it gets too cold for me, 15 deg or below, i'm 6-2 and the stock med on my apex just doesn't cut it for me.
the tall with the brackets doesn't make any noise in fact i find judt the opposite, it cut's the wind on the helmet so you lose your sense of speed, it's a whole different experience for sure.

I have the tall windshield with the brackets and found it was so tall the sled would not fit into my clamshell trailer. I had to cut ( trim ) about two inches off the top, but as a side bonus the brackets do a great job of keeping the headlight out of the trees
